Reira is... definitely one of Foster's most favoured people in the Carnival.

He was originally baffled by her, because she was so enamoured of something he'd thought of as disposable--effectively garbage--and he more or less gave it to her because it was pointless not to, and to deflect any potential trouble it'd cause him if he didn't. And they had a lot of trouble communicating, because everything Reira thought she was supposed to do, she... super wasn't with him.

But she was still a lot better and faster at figuring things out than anyone else (even though he LITERALLY TELLS PEOPLE WHAT TO DO), and the more they interacted, the easier he found talking to her... much to his surprise, eventually, as he realised he didn't super fucking hate her.

Actually, she was pretty sharp, and strong-willed, and those are traits he respects.

Once they seriously malfunctioned in Greysol and then had a long talk on Kerner Island, he basically determined that Reira was not only the least offensive personality in the Carnival, she was probably the most reasonable and willing to listen to what he was actually saying.

Her fearless, blunt refusal to take what he said or be ordered out of what she had physically observed sort of clinched it, honestly.

So, you know, when she didn't show up at breakfast in Heartstone... he 'checked' on her. And now look where that's gotten him.

The thing is, because Foster doesn't have a nurturing bone in his body, he is neither protective of her nor does he infantilise her or her motives (despite her being 7, and arguably, at an age where that might make some sense.) Part of this may be because of how much he personally despises that treatment, but honestly, he's much more interested in enabling her to do whatever she wants; he is of the opinion that she has the right to decide for herself, and that she can handle it. If she can't, then she should be expected to deal with the consequences (isn't that how you learn, anyway) and also she's perfectly able to get a lot of other help that isn't. You know. Him.

TL;DR:

Reira Akaba Is Better Than You.

So Ginko is VERY relieved that he and Sans finally like.... kind of sort of talked about what happened, and that they are at least on speaking terms again?? But he is also definitely. Pretty worried about the possibility that he waited too long to say anything and that the circumstances in which he did were Too Bad (which lbr was VERY much his own fault) and that Irreparable Damage has been done. WHICH WOULD SUCK because despite Ginko's incompetence with emotional communication he actually really does like Sans and value his friendship?? Like he can be sort of a pain at times and Ginko very much wishes he would NOT teleport into his trailer to ask for weed, but. a cool guy and a good friend nonetheless

Connie will have to sort herself out after she gets rid of this Mind Control haze that's going on but she had a nice impression of Gorgenzaka! He's big but nice and a big crying softie just like Steven is, but an even bigger doof if that's even possible.

Also she pretty much conceptualizes him as a giant beast monster even if he told her he didn't use to be that way.

u know exhausting as usual

Honestly Papyrus had an advantage in Ginko's first impression of him, in that he was vaguely aware that he's Sans's brother, so he gets some points for that. In general, Papyrus has the kind of personality that's kind of tiring for Ginko to be around for too long, but honestly he likes Papyrus enough not to be too bothered, and will gladly chat with him about assorted nonsense and... gently suggest when an idea could use some revision.
dontpokethat: it could have been some other times also. who cares (it was the best of times)

Honestly the more Ginko has gotten to know Tamaki the more he likes this kid. He gets the impression that Tamaki can be pretty spacey, and sometimes it takes some doing to explain things to him, but like... he's willing to listen and seems generally well-meaning and earnest and that's worth a lot in Ginko's book. Basically he likes people who will let him ramble about mushi. Plus he appreciates that Tamaki isn't as... high-energy as some people here.

He also probably asks Tamaki sometimes about stuff from his homeworld and his idol work and everything, because honestly he does want to know more about how "future" Japan works and stuff?? obviously a teenager is the best source of future deets

While Rita and Peridot haven’t talked a lot recently, I think the two of them have a lot in common, and there are a few areas where they can potentially take off and nerd out on a level that probably few people can follow, partly because they’re technical geniuses, and partly because they’re both a little bit crazy and have little sense of moderation.

Rita finds gems fascinating as a species, which gives her a generally positive impression of Peridot by default, especially since she’s forthcoming with info about what gems are. Magic rocks are Rita’s favourite thing, so a whole species of magic rock people??? Best thing ever.

On the other hand though, Rita has approximately zero respect for authority and doesn’t really recognize Peridot as her “boss.” But since they haven’t had any major disagreements to date, this hasn’t been an issue. Rita’ll go along with things so long as she finds Peridot’s way of doing things agreeable. If that changes, though, there could be massive friction.

And hey, maybe they can bond over their love for building dumb shit. We’ll see!

EVERY TIME I LOOK AT YOU, YOU'RE WORKING.
HARDER... BETTER... FASTER...
AND, OF COURSE, OUR WORK IS NEVER OVER!
BUT YOU DON'T SEEM ANY HAPPIER.
THAT'S A LITTLE DAFT, DON'T YOU THINK?

papyrus used to think that sans would be the greatest challenge in the world, w/regards to the challenge of encouraging him to believe in himself, act for the sake of pursuing his dreams, and generally be a happy and productive person.

now he's met foster.

for all that papyrus does the intense, unwavering belief thing, that doesn't mean he's as oblivious as he comes across. close to it, sometimes, but in this case? he knows something's not right here. foster makes such utterly self-disparaging remarks, pessimistically dismisses every encouragement... and never seems to express pride in himself, or his accomplishments. hardly expresses joy, for all that he laughs. the skeletons put up enough fronts themselves, papyrus can see there's fronts roughly covering some really awful self esteem. what a terrible way to live! truly, using magic to imprison and control corpses has nothing on how much trouble papyrus has with knowing somebody thinks of themselves that way.

not that papyrus knew all this, going into psi's assignment. it came out, in bits in pieces, through that attempted mentorship. papyrus reflexively complimented and encouraged, foster shot it all down, and papyrus took it as a challenge. everybody deserves to think well of themselves! no matter what!! they also, if they so choose, have the right to choose not to. papyrus doesn't see the point and won't hide it, but what can you do... besides remind them of the option, and compliment the good things, and demonstrate how to be confident?

so now? yeah, it's like you said; unstoppable force and unmovable object. papyrus refuses to be outdone, or to surrender. he'll probably change tactics along the line, if further insights into foster come up, but he'll keep trying. that kind of stubborn confidence in people is one of the foundations of papyrus' self-confidence; if he somehow totally gave up on someone, it would damage him. foster's still a potential friend, as is everyone in the entire multiverse, but on some level he's also a project for papyrus to bolster his own self-esteem. it's not insincere, but that's part of the force behind it

He seems pretty competent! A good head on his shoulders. Scout can respect his willingness to go after a bad idea knowing it's bad because there aren't other options. She is kind of jealous of his illusion magic and now wishes she'd made her contract for that instead of just "undetectability".

The plant thing doesn't even register as really noteworthy, though she'd definitely be like "huh" if she knew more details.

Papyrus is truly a ridiculous person and sometime she's not quite sure how to react to some of the things he says, if they're truly naive statements or more like pointed barbs. But he obviously cares, and he's good at a lot of things, and honestly, someone she respects very much is also completely ridiculous. I mean, look at this.

She doesn't really think of him as anything like Yoda, who's way more of a troll about stuff, but it's the same in just... 'well, that happened, try to roll with it'. She was really impressed with him on Roof Adventure! Her inferiority complex re: having weak powers hasn't kicked in too badly because she finds his abilities kinda weird, not like something she could probably do if she were stronger.

They really need to thread more, I like their dynamic!

Strange! You weirdo!

Scout considers him reckless and irresponsible and wouldn't understand like half of his motivation. The amount of stuff he can do is frankly kinda alarming, too? There's so much. But he's also pretty good natured, doesn't seem to look down on people for not being able to do as much, and doesn't seem to have the dark edge that would really put her off? She likes him but considers him kind of a mess.

FOSTER, BOY, Foster...

Yuya feels really confused by and also sad for Foster. He's clearly got a lot of problems going on and doesn't like himself at... all... he seems pretty stuck in what's going on with him? Like he has no hope for getting out of it, which is pretty sad considering death was a better option. Yuya doesn't know exactly what's going on, but he doesn't think it's something Foster should have to cope with alone.

That said, he can't make Foster accept his help or anything so whenever his friendliness is rebuffed he just backs off and waits it out. He'd really like to understand, because that's the first part of communicating with and helping someone (or being a friend), but he and Foster come from totally different places and without being explicitly told he doesn't really understand what Foster gets at most of the time at all.

And of course the thing he is really direct about is something that's deeply upsetting to Yuya on a personal level. Foster's a person in Yuya's mind, and he'll never be able to accept that objectification of himself especially with how it reflects on himself and what he's been through.

He really wants to see Foster get support because he does think he has potential to get better (either by wishing it better or just, u know, coping), Yuya always believes in second chances. He's just not having any success himself so mostly he's left being friendly when he sees him and otherwise hoping Foster's got some actual friends here, especially after Portland.
