Between the rambling note, the mention of working for soldiers, and the ridiculousness of getting kidnapped for apparently hanging out with a bird, Lambert's building a very confusing picture of this little girl, and they haven't even met in person yet. He's getting the impression she's a little sheltered in a lot of ways, and she has a fucked up past, but isn't that a dime a dozen around here? It doesn't bring him to any greater understanding of her personality.

The fact that she's hanging out with Foster willingly isn't a surprise given her apparently simple motivations. Give her a bird? Sure. What's of far more interest to him is that Foster apparently gives a shit about her. He still hasn't sussed out the cause for that, exactly, but needless to say, he won't be forgetting that anytime soon.
