THE NEXT ADVENTURE

As it turns out, it's been over a year since I last did a State of the Game! Well, no more. Changes are coming to the structure of Lost Carnival, and they need to be gone over. As many of your already know, the available jobs are changing, and information pages are being updated. Most of this is to accommodate the fact that we are entering a particularly dense chapter of Lost Carnival's story, which will shake up the status quo considerably.

The next big event will be going to a realm called Eden, which was discovered in the Athenaeum to be the location of the Silver Mirror. AKA, it's the next big plot device the carnival needs in its quest to fight off the Faerie Courts. It will be a mission style event, similar to how the Heartstone Manor was run. If you are new and don't know what that means, it's essentially a big group effort to acquire the objective, and to survive the threats that Eden has to offer.

From that point onward, the usual pattern of events will start getting shaken up. Which is a big part of the reason that jobs will now be changing to something less carnival dependent.

JOB REWORK
As you can see here, the structure of the job departments are changing. Now, instead of ten departments, there are six. The Taken page has already been updated to reflect this.

Security and the Nightrunners will be fusing into the Militia, run by both Sans and Lambert. Cookhouse, Wardrobe, and Treasury are fusing into Administration, run by Carly, which will focus on the general resources and upkeep of the carnival. Performance is becoming Management, run by Joker, which will mostly be about diplomatic operations and human resources. Acquisitions is staying the same, run by Childermass, but will also include a new group called 'Research', which will focus on the acquisition of information. Engineering will remain the same, run by Peridot, but its primary focus will be the Armoury, which is providing weapons, vehicles, and equipment for the rest of the carnival. Medical, run by Herbert, is staying completely unchanged.

Characters have been shuffled around between roles based on IC desires as well as their general proficiency. Check out the job listing to see where you are now, and let me know if you need any changes.

NEW INFO PAGES
In an effort to make the plot a bit easier to catch up on, I'm in the processes of creating several new information pages. First and foremost is the Plot FAQ, which explains commonly known metaplot information as well as the various story arcs the game has been through. There is also some stuff about OOC game structure and plot threading etiquette. You can ask questions on the Plot FAQ the same way you'd ask them on the regular FAQ.

This is a work in progress, but I have also added an NPC Descriptions page. Most of the important NPCs have been included, but it will fleshing it out and adding additional characters as time goes on. Most of this will be information publicly revealed in game, meant to help keep people up to date on the situation. I'll be trying to keep NPC statuses up to date.

Lastly, I've updated the basic FAQ to better reflect the current status of the game. Let me know if you see anything in there that's screwy/doesn't seem to match the current gameplay.

EGGS FOR ALL
Shit sucks, and the Ringmaster is well aware of it. As such, she is going to be putting an immense amount of magical effort into protecting the lives of everyone currently working for her - that's right, over the next couple weeks, she will be providing rebirth eggs for everyone in the carnival.

The rules are such: everyone gets one egg, and if you die and use it up, you'll not get another one. If you already have an egg from rewards, you'll get another egg on top of the one you already have. Eggs are non-transferable. The ritual to set up a rebirth egg, which will be explained to characters as a spell that will capture their soul and allow them to be reborn from an egg after dying, is completely voluntary, and will require the active participation of everyone receiving one.

THERE'S A CATCH: using an egg given to your character this way will have some degree of player/mod-guided randomness in terms of what changes are received from its use. You will not be able to choose a Rare Change wholesale the way you would with a rewards egg. The specifics of this will be decided at the time of death.

If your character has some reason to opt out of receiving an egg, they are a free to do so. If they don't want an egg or won't cooperate with the ritual, you must let me know. The ritual typically involves a small amount of blood letting or its equivalent.

RECRUITMENT & TDMS
The in character atmosphere for recruitment will be changing, as well. The Ringmaster already decided to stop punishing people for small infractions with service contracts a few months ago, meaning only willing characters can sign on for regular app rounds. While the TDMs and flavour text used to suggest promises of adventure and exploration, now the Ringmaster's request has gotten a lot more dire - she is recruiting people to help protect the carnival in this time of need. Characters will be told this while signing up, as well as what they can ask for in return. This means willing contracts are becoming a bit more mercenary in nature.

There is also going to be a greater focus on recruiting new characters by saving them from captivity, either by fae or other multiverse travelling species. There is going to be a rescue-based application round as a part of the Eden event, so watch out for that when the announcement comes. The TDM will be changing completely, to reflect either an inactive carnival searching for help, or the unique environment of each captive situation.

And that, I think, is all for now. Please ask any questions or make any comments you might have in the post below. I'm sure I've managed to forget something.
