⇨ IIIT'S A CR MEME!

A WILD CR MEME APPEARS

Given that it's been a while since our last CR/plotting meme, this seemed well overdue!

This post is where you talk about what you are looking for in character relationships, and then respond to other people's posts to plot! You can be as long winded or as brief if you like - as long as you communicate what you are interested in doing.

New to this post is a 'Collective Objectives' section, which will be a toplevel below. This is for coordinating events or efforts that you want the input/organization of multiple characters on, making a big group log, or developing something have broader ramifications for the Carnival moving forward.

There is a form provided below for your convenience, but you don't have to fill everything out! It just needs to be enough information to give your fellow players an idea of what they have to work with.

CHARACTER NAME | ([personal profile] journalname)
Canon: (What canon are they from?)
Carnival Role: (What is their job? Maybe your characters could be working together.)
Length of Stay: (Are they new, a veteran, or somewhere in between?)
Skills/Powers: (Self-explanatory; a concise summary of their powers and a link to their IC info page is probably more than enough. )
Routine: (Does your character have a regular schedule people can bump into them easily? A place they like to hang out? Are they a night owl or an early bird?)
Current status in game: (What they've been up to recently, their mental state, and any recent important events or developments.)
Any current or future plans: (This could be things that you would like to happen, or ideas that you're currently working on. Where would you like to see your character go, or are you looking for suggestions? Is there something you'd like to do at the current carnival location? Are you trying to nail some bonuses/rewards over the next month?)
IC Assistance: (Do you have any specific IC goals that your character needs help with? Does your character need help with their act? Do you need someone to fill a specific role in their life?)
Desired CR: (Are you most interested in seeking out positive or negative CR? Friends? Dates? New enemies? Be as specific as you can.)
Shipping Preferences: (Yay or nay? Is roleplaying sexual content something you are interested in? Are you interested in one sided crushes? Let us know here.)
Permissions/Opt Outs: (Please link any permissions/opt out posts, if applicable, here so other people can fill it in. You can also use this to make a note of any content/subject matter you'd prefer to opt out of yourself.)
Additional Comments: (Tagging speed? Timezone woes? Funny gifs? Anything else you'd like to address.)

Yeah, sure, why not?

Childermass is the same variety of English magician that Strange is, only he's more on par with the typical power level than Mr. OP Protaganist up there when you exclude the shadow magic that he's picked up during his time with the carnival. What he does have over Strange is a fairly decent knowledge of magic, magical theory, history (though only English, so yeah), laws, and so on, since he's the one who had access to the Hurtfew Abbey library (doesn't read much my ass, this man is a liar).

His focus is in shadows, stealth, illusion, tracking to a very small extent, and fortune telling. With fae magic, it's definitely all shadow, all the time, and while he's capable of shapeshifting, he's not sure he's the best one to teach that.

However, he's less willing to act as a teacher for magic. The most he might be willing to try with is teaching his general "don't look here" spell and possibly some shadow manipulation, but he won't be sharing how he manages his shadow-stepping. He could technically also teach people how to read tarot, only he can't impart the actual magical skill for accurate readings. It's not really a spell to be taught.

Also flying, since people seem to keep getting wings around here, but that ain't magic.

Sure--! I can promise it will almost definitely end badly for him. Junko's Ultimate Analysis might have a thing for putting him in the worst place at the worst time.

Like, full disclaimer, she'll be strange when they first meet, but good strange, bad strange, that's up to Yuya.

Jokes on you, he's got antagonism and pettiness back as his first regains on contract, so if he starts treating him like a thing, Flowey will not

be nice

But yes they should meet!!
wilt: (song that might play when you fight sans)

[personal profile] wilt 2017-11-09 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
That's good, because Flowey will be annoyingly chatty about it. The thing about it is though, the threads kind of have to move him in some way to unlock them. Like Cole will have to help him through a positive or negative or neutral experience.

Foster's magic is ritual magic, which is predicated on the use of symbology (cultural, personal, etc) to harness outside sources of magic for a result. It's about 50% science and 50% art, 100% patterns; you need to be knowledgeable about the mythos surrounding different objects and concepts if you want to be able to do it on the fly.

His specialty is necromancy, which he will be openly reluctant to teach, but if you ask, he will. He'll just be a bit weird about it.

That said, you'd better really want it, because as a teacher, Foster is... not that great. Mostly because he has a head full of nasty brain disease and how the FUCK do you use words. But he is actually extremely sharp about magic, and has already cracked how to combine ritual magic with the innate magic of being a Changeling. That's how he made his undead abomination mouse-dogs during the hunt.

Which brings me to him as a student. Foster is very interested in learning to use magic that's innate to him, especially mental magic or magic related to energy transfer, but he'd be totally thrilled to learn elemental magic or barrier magic.

He will outright refuse to learn healing magic; healers can't be necromancers.

Yeah, I can't believe that just happened, honestly.

It's fine, she'll be even closer to right when he makes himself undead again.

all he's saying is that people need to get enchanted in the first place to see if breaking an enchantment actually works. :|

and hell yeah, things are going to be stuck in rule of funny sort of situations. we're gonna have dumb nonsense while Strange practices breaking spells.

MAGE CLUB MAGE CLUB

Syrlya would, of course, be interested. He has a lot he can say about Tyrian magic, but mostly Mesmer magic because that's his specialty. Mesmers are illusionist mages except their illusions are tangible, and basically manipulated raw magic. His magic is largely utility, with reflections, invisibility, teleports, etc. Also lots of confusion and misdirection to people's senses. He's got some time manipulation in there but it's super low-scale and time is an illusion anyway. Mostly he just puts things on fast forward or slow-mo.

He's also basically a magical creature since it's something inherent to his actual existence, and it means that he has a natural magic ability to manipulate and sense dispositions of plant life! He's not actually well practiced in the skill to do super grand and efficient things but it's very manageable on a smaller scale.

He's willing to hear about anyone's magic, but he's most interested in the way magic actually functions in each world and really powerful, large scale magic.

AS FOR TEACHING he can't really teach the plant manipulation since it's just a racial trait, but he's completely willing to try and explain Mesmer magic! The energy used for it is technically world specific but fae magic could mimic the end result easily, and other canons that deal with raw, external magic energy might find it easier to devise a version of directly. He's more likely to come at this as working out the logistics or just providing explanations than like, dedicated tutorship.

Edit: OH YEAH also since he's mostly trained how to use his magic offensively he's totally up for magic training spars.

For OOC I think a network post + Mingle Log is probably the best for getting it jumpstarted.

Yuya's mostly here to learn cause he knows shit-all about magic.

He's got an anti-fae warding spell he's willing to share! Otherwise though he's really here to find out about everyone's magic styles and get an idea what kind of magic he wants to learn given his goal is protecting his friends with minimal bloodshed.

Lauren

[personal profile] mylastchance 2017-11-09 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
LAUREN | ([personal profile] mylastchance)
Canon: Dungeons & Dragons : Forgotten Realms Setting (5E)
Carnival Role: Animal Tamer (Performer)
Length of Stay: Game Start

Skills/Powers:
  • Healing/Weather/Elemental Magic.
  • He's trained in combat with his quarterstaff.
  • He has extensive knowledge of plants and animals native to his world.
  • He can hunt/track/has wilderness survival skills.
  • He can talk to plants and animals.
  • And also he can turn into animals.

Routine:
  • He meditates at sunrise every day, usually by the lake since his goddess of choice is related to water.
  • Then he goes and gets breakfast, so he's usually in the cook house early and people watching.
  • The he goes back to his trailer to wake up his brother.
  • Then he practices his performance routine in the big top/bonds with Holly his pokemon.
  • He normally works out at the training grounds in the evening.

Current status in game: He's been increasingly worried about his brother so he's been shoving his own feelings aside to focus on that. He is really feeling shitty for accidentally killing a person during the first hunt and has conflicted feelings about being hunted during the second one. He used to hate the carnival, but recently realized no matter how much he hates it he's stuck here so he better get used to it and just stay as prepared and alert as he can.

Any current or future plans: Plans right now involve him learning more magic of different kinds/combat training/helping out more with the medical side of things.

IC Assistance: He wants to get stronger so he can protect his brother better, so anyone who can help with combat training is welcome. He's also just a very curious guy and likes learning new things anyone who can teach someone from a medieval setting anything he hasn't seen before well, he would welcome it.

Desired CR: He needs friends. Or enemies. Or crushes. Or lovers. Anything really. Lauren is the sort of person who doesn't really get offended easily so if you have a rougher character you're looking to get CR for he is your guy. He's also very observant, but he isn't good at putting the pieces he sees together into a coherent picture. What I'm saying is he's pretty gullible for anyone who wants to take advantage of this. He's also a teenage boy, so he reacts weird around girls or particularly attractive people. Also, just anyone who would think he is weird is interested in having awkward conversations! He's very bad at conversation so this can lead to some pretty amusing exchanges at times.

Shipping Preferences: I love shipping so if you think something could happen hit me up. The one thing that I should mention is that Lauren is strongly heterosexual leaning. He's not opposed to physical relationships with men, but to him it would be very much just a sex thing and not a romance thing unless shit happened to push it that way. He's had exactly one relationship before now and he had to watch her get almost eaten by a dragon, so he might also be a bit overprotective if he gets romantically involved with anyone.

Either way I don't actually expect romance to happen for him just because of how incredibly awkward he is. But if you are interested hit me up!

Permissions/Opt Outs: The only thing I need warning on is drug abuse. I can still probably play it, but I need a heads up so I can figure it out first. If anything violent could happen also let me know. I'm usually okay with my character getting injured though as long as it doesn't lead to any permanent loss of body parts or death though.

Yeah, Cole's big thing is conflict resolution and helping people with their problems, so once things are explained, he's definitely up for "okay, how are we going to help make the flower feel happiness!" and things like that.

ALSO, he's an infomoddy fuck, so I'd appreciate it if you filled out Cole's permission post because people are understandably a bit wary of just casual mind-reading.

Just asking if you've played Undertale? Because if so, be as infomoddy as you like with Flowey with in-game events. No permission required.

Oh, definitely he's going to have to anyway but he's going to try and be 'very busy'. It will not work. Please, harass this strange tiny man.

He is pretty much going to be the modern science guy in this equation. If he can get past Rita being a little girl who yelled at him, Pazu did mention to me that Rita does magic AND chemistry so that could be a decent crossover.

I'm on the wrong journal for him, but actually, I think Foster would be very interested in the kind of magic Syr does?

It seems to be pretty compatible with Foster's magic (his magic is actually about manipulating external magics) too.

....also, maybe he could stand to get a better impression of Syr than "spider box guy they had to set on fire while he hovered impatiently behind them so they could do something actually important."
