It’s not even a little bit of an exaggeration to say that Steven remains one of, if not THE most important person in Peridot’s life. How could he not be? Their history is significant, and Steven was at her side through some of the most terrifying and life-changing moments Peridot has ever experienced in her millennia of existence. And that was all before they even showed up at the carnival!

Even through all the wackiness the carnival experiences, the relationship between these two has remained as steadfast as ever. Unlike Garnet Amethyst and Pearl, Peridot has never viewed Steven as someone who, primarily, needs to be protected. She views him more readily as an equal and a role model. He has taught her so much! And not just about the Earth and it’s myriad of wonders, but also about how to be a more compassionate and empathetic person, and to embrace her individuality. In a lot of ways, he’s almost like a parent or a teacher to her. Whenever she discovers something new and exciting, or creates a new gadget, Steven will always be one of the first people to see it. She wants to share her enthusiasm with him and earn his praise.

That’s not to say she isn’t protective of him, of course. Peridot is AT ALL TIMES ready to throw down for her friend, and she will actively put herself in the line of fire to stick up for him. People who have hurt him in the past are automatically on her shit-list, even if they’ve done very little to hurt HER personally (looking at you, Jasper). Steven is also her moral compass. She’s still capable of thinking for herself, but it *really* doesn’t take much to sway her over to Steven’s side, even when they initially disagree on something. She just trusts him that implicitly.
