⇨ New Location: THE CELEBRATION

PREPARATION
As Day 57 comes to a close, it would seem that no one has taken the Ringmaster's time of weakness against her - and boy, is she thrilled out it! Her explanation of those events will be covered by an IC post, but suffice to say, she was touched by each and every show of loyalty and care that she received from her workers during that time. It surpassed even her wildest expectations! As such, she will announce, she is going to take the carnival somewhere she personally considers very fun, as a reward for their service and to celebrate the end of the second full month of the carnival's new season.

There will be a couple day's journey between dimensional locations, during which the Ringmaster will take the opportunity to get into some further nonsense with the supervisors that will be handled in another post. After that, on Day 60, the carnival will sync itself to a new dimensional realm, one that she claims of the home of an endless party that has been going on for centuries. Whether or not that sounds awesome probably depends on your personality, but once you've been escorted from the carnival to the Celebration's grounds, you'll discover that it really does have something for everyone.

Workers will be free to enjoy all of what the Celebration has to offer, leading up to a grand masquerade ball at the end of the week. That said, they should put costume shopping on their list of things to do - thankfully, free clothes in many exciting styles are one of this location's key features.

SETTING

The Celebration is apparently some kind of pocket dimension, passingly connected to many realms but not fully part of any of them. The entirety of its universe lies within the walls of some kind of grand resort - organized and run in a way similar to a cruise ship, to anyone familiar. Of course, in this case, there is no ocean and there are no tourist stops. It's just glamorous hall after glamorous hall, filled with fine liquor, fine food, and luxury, luxury, luxury. Rooms are pristine, messes are cleaned up before you can call for a maid, and all the Host asks for in return is your enjoyment.

Pretty sweet deal, right? Right.

Upon entering the Celebration's realm, the wait staff will be ready for you. Carnival members will be escorted to their rooms, in the pairs already determined by their trailer park arrangements. They'll be able to bring whatever belongings they wish along from their trailer, but after they've arrived there will be minimal travel between the carnival and the Celebration grounds, so you better pack smart. You're going to be in for a trip.

Not least because the gilded exterior of Celebration life hides some troubling realities which the Ringmaster may be too damn fae to notice.

PATRONS

THE HOST: The realm's creator and most loyal servant. The Host is the entity that allows the Celebration to exist, and has been propagating it for centuries for apparently mysterious reasons - likely something to do with living off of residual feeling of joy or whatnot, as the Ringmaster will explain. The Host manifests in the form of a large number of faceless servants - guests will find it impossible to focus on the facial features of any given servant, as if their eyes cannot focus on the details or as if the image immediately slips their memory. These servant figures are nearly omnipresent, and will appear whenever you need something without needing to be called. You can tell that they do come in various gender presentations, mostly by their outfits, which are primarily neat, sleek, and black in design. Don't bother tipping - they won't know what to do with it.

THE GUESTS: The beings that frequent the Celebration are much like you: gathered from across the multiverse and coming in a variety of forms, though most tend towards human or ostensibly elven. The Ringmaster will explain that guests end up there in a similar manner that they do to the carnival. Perhaps they were looking for an escape, or in need of some joy in their lives. How convenient, then, that they end up in this realm where the Host can take care of all their needs for as long as they require. It sounds great on paper, sure, but there's something about the other guests here that the Ringmaster doesn't quite seem to notice. You won't notice until you try to interact with them more closely, but there is something unnerving about the way they behave, as if they've lost their comprehension for a world outside of endless luxuries and wine. The worst of them seem as if they've been burnt out from the inside - like some spark inside of them is gone and now they can only think of pursuing that next bit of pleasure. But, maybe you're just being a downer. That has to be it, right?

DANGERS

AN ENEMY RETURNS: Though many are too new to remember the trouble caused by a certain society of vampires, these creatures have certainly not forgotten the carnival. Details will be explained in the latter portions of the event, but let it be known that there will be trouble. You can only run away from your past for so long, and the Celebration does not discriminate in its guests.

REWARDS
The Host would assure you, being here is its own reward. Of course, this may change with further plot developments.

CHANGES
If your character falls fully victim to the spell of the Celebration, giving into its temptations deeply enough to have their will compromised, they may develop a new common or uncommon change as a result. What kind of change is flexible, but something that matches the context in which they are receiving it would be ideal - so if you have something you want that is particularly glamorous or superficial, this would be the time. Or, even better, their costume at the masquerade may start becoming more than a mask...

Also, there will be vampires around later, so... just keep that in mind. Vampires can famously cause some changes their their own.

Beyond that, this is a PLOTTING POST, which means you can use it to make plans! The game chat is also a great place to discuss plots, so we welcome you to pop on in if you haven't already! A mingle log will be posted this weekend.

Are there any kids running around eternal partyland, or are the guests more or less all adults?

If any of these burnt out shells of people were to disappear, would the powers that be in this dimension object?

A few questions!

1. Could Lambert use his magic to influence the mind of one of the denizens? Or are they too burned out for that/would it have weird interactions with any magic currently on them?

2. Assuming it works, would its effectiveness depend on what he was using it for? For example: getting someone to lead them somewhere, vs asking a direct question about how they arrived at the celebration vs trying to order someone to attack the host?

3. I'm assuming EVERYTHING IS MAGIC but are there any obvious sources/concentrations of magical power that Lambert's medallion could pick up on? It's essentially a magic detector that can detect strong enchantments/magical sources but not in any kind of specific idea of its nature. Just "lol sure is a lot of magic here."

Good to know, that's super interesting! Follow-up questions:

1. Since it doesn't seem to be enchantment-driven, there won't be any effect if there's attempts to order individuals to "snap out of it," or similar, correct? But could people be compelled to stop partying?

2. Is the brainwashing a thing that ramps up the more you indulge in the celebration's offers? So if Lambert really threw himself into it, he'd start feeling changes pretty quickly?

3. Are there any other effects to keep in mind? ie would brainwashed characters feel compelled to shift their loyalty to the host, feel less aggressive in general, more thoughtless of things like boundaries and personal space etc. ... or can we play around it at our discretion/MORE DETAILS LATER? Since they're there for such a short time, I figured it wouldn't cause CRAZY PERSONALITY CHANGES.

This makes it much easier to decide where I wanna go with this, thank you! Last question: is openly carrying a weapon at the celebration fine, or would it have to be concealed?

Okay, so... there's a pretty good chance that by the end of this, Ash is going to try to burn the entire dimension down. She has serious, serious issues with a place like this, where the soul itself can be compromised and the will damaged.

Who's stopping her and who's helping her?
osteothropy: (log off angry and go to bed sad)

[personal profile] osteothropy 2017-02-06 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Sans won't move against her actively unless it seems like she's going to bring hell down on the carnival with her actions. Otherwise, he'll be basically supportive of the idea of getting people out of there - he might have to have a conversation with her about methods, though. He's reserved enough about the subject that he doesn't want to risk endangering people from the carnival.
amusicaladventure: (Ash!)

[personal profile] amusicaladventure 2017-02-07 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
She's going to avoid any repercussions on the carnival and its people as much as possible. Her ideal, of course, is the party-dimension being so utterly broken it has no power to move against anyone any more...
osteothropy: (you are drafted into the skeleton war)

[personal profile] osteothropy 2017-02-07 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
He doesn't know if that's even possible, but it doesn't offend him on principle. Important query he'll bring up, though:

1) Where are you going to take all these people if your ruin the dimension they're living in?
amusicaladventure: (Pointing it out)

[personal profile] amusicaladventure 2017-02-08 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
Don't they have homes they came from? Most of them are from somewhere else, right?

When it comes down to it she'd be fine with the party continuing so long as the free-will-sucking went away!

Maybe we should have a tally of who all's resisting the frivolity so their coworkers can try to drag them into it. Jamie here is going to hover around being awkward and nervous because what is socializing with other people??? Also a half-nude elf offered him drugs and he's not comfortable with that. Or something.

Snake's going to hide in his closet unless Joker tries to make him engage. If it's about helping people, though, and he can hide his face...

You're a saint thank you, neither I nor my muse knows jack shit about fashion lmao. Someone is going to have to drag her into fancy clothes, but I need to know costume details in advance of the actual threads hahah.

But yeah, most of this stuff is fancy stuff, but let me know if you ever need something more casual too!
