PLOT CATCH UP # 2: Post-Library Boogaloo

Following up from the last plot catch-up Kates did, which has a more complete NPC list. Now that we're officially out of the Athenaeum and moving into the next location, the Camping Grounds, it's a good time to summarize what characters should have heard of/been aware of by this point.

State of the Carnival:
As of late Day 61, the Ringmaster is a giant dragon with a gas problem sitting in the lake. She's a bit hard to miss. Various people are injured and recovering in the medical tent as they try to process what just happened. All the kidnapped Carnival members have been rescued.

As for how things got to this point... that's where we could use people's help putting things together. o/ If you have a summary of the fae rescue thread you participated in (and/or could comment to let people know if your character is currently majorly injured or in some other not-normal state of being) please comment below.

MEGATHREAD SUMMARIES

Lady of the Lake & Malachite
Characters Involved: Peridot, Herbert West, Alphys, Shima, Sans, Jasper, Lapis Lazuli, and the Lady of the Lake (NPC).

Summary: The rescue effort started with the team following Herbert out to the aisle in the Athenaeum where the Lady first appeared and kidnapped Lapis. Upon arriving, Shima and Sans positioned themselves nearby as backup, concealing themselves from sight with both their own magic and by the power of narration, ready to use the element of surprise to their advantage whenever the fae finally decided to show herself.

Meanwhile, Alphys, Peridot and Herbert were preparing to confront the Lady directly, in order to force Malachite to make an appearance. The idea was that if they could poof the gems forming the fusion and snatch them away from their captor, they could make a quick escape immediately thereafter without having to lug any bodies around. With this in mind, Herbert created a gateway back to the Lady's realm by pouring some water on the floor and embellishing the action with narrative magic: The spilled water transformed into the same lily pad covered lake that he had seen before, the only difference being that this time, an underwater cavern was visible below the surface, beckoning them to enter.

While Peridot and Herbert were discussing the best method for infiltrating an underwater lair, Alphys stepped forward and took matters into her own hands by narrating the Lady's arrival. This worked far too well, and the fae appeared within seconds to address them all. Peridot in particular was caught off guard by this sudden progression of events, and totally bungled the ensuing conversation with the fae. After a brief exchange of words, Herbert saved the day by narrating Malachite's appearance, taking care to imply that the Lady had less control over the fusion than she might have previously thought. Right on cue, Malachite emerged from the lake... but the Lady was unfazed by this development. She promptly saddled up and started riding Malachite like a horse, and ordered her to crush the lot of the intruders.

Herbert brewed up a potion on the spot that, that when taken, would help the team resist the Lady's domain of Death and Drowning. Peridot was an idiot and forgot to take it (even though he offered it directly to her), because she was too busy getting all caught up in casting a narrative spell to summon the specter of the Earth Spirit aura that she had channeled back in Portland, in order to give herself an edge in combat. After making a speech about refusing to leave without Lapis, she turned into a dragon and launched herself directly at Malachite's face. Malachite responded by simply opening her mouth and snagging Peridot with her horrible pharyngeal jaws, and promptly swallowed her.

COMBAT ENSUED. Malachite summoned up ice-weapon wielding water clones of both Herbert and Alphys and sicced them on their look-alikes. At this point, Shima and Sans finally emerged to help even the odds: Shima fast-ball special'd a tiny Sans off the end of his staff, launching him directly at the Lady. The Warden took the opportunity during the ensuing flight to change into his massive werewolf form, and snatched the Lady up in his jaws, tearing her off of Malachite's back. The two proceeded to tussle for a bit, with the Lady attempting to get her seaweed hair inside of Sans' skull to fuck him up, which was pretty fucking nasty.

Shima next summoned the demon Yamantaka, in order to try and help contend with Malachite while he went and focused on helping Hebert with his water clone. This went pretty well until they sliced it in half, and then those halves both just reformed as two entirely new clones. Malachite starts having a bad time because Peridot is making herself unpleasant to swallow by slashing her throat from the inside.
