So first off, the mind-reading is MAJORLY CREEPY and leads to Rita hearing things about herself that she was comfortably in denial about, which is pretty uncomfortable.

But learning that he’s a spirit was a game changer, and it makes her a little more tolerant of his weirdness than she’d be if he were human. She actually believes that his intentions are good (although that won’t stop her from flipping out if he embarrasses her too much). Since she plans on creating a shitload of spirits in her world and basing the future of magic on them, she wants to learn more about spirits, and interacting with Cole seems like a way she can do that. She wants a future where humans and spirits live in harmony, so she’s deeply interested in how he views and relates to humans. So on the one hand, she actually kinda cares what he thinks, but she also partly sees him as a useful specimen to be studied.

It’s also nice that he’s so willing to help, as Rita’s happy to boss him around. c:
