HILARIOUSLY IT'S GOING PRETTY WELL.

Lambert is legitimately one of 9S' favourite people despite Lambert's... everything. Aside from Lambert being a human, Lambert is basically the perfect combination of practical leadership and bad ideas that makes him 9S' ideal boss. In comparison to 9S' previous working conditions (his previous boss was fairly no nonsense, cold and clinical, and commands from space and not on the field. Also she's hot--), working with Lambert has been a delight; Lambert is his boss but he's not distant. There's a sense of companionship that he just does not get out of his situation at home, and while 9S was absolutely startled by the explosion over the radios prior to the manor, Lambert kind of... embodies a lot of things he would like out of a boss (approachable, practical, someone who's cool with light horsing around) and a lot of things he admires about humans, which is in part humans' capability for bad ideas with reasonably good/not-entirely-terrible intentions. Lambert gives the Nightrunners autonomy and the opportunity to present ideas, options and solutions in a way 9S never got back home.

The other thing is that 9S observes the way Lambert deals with him and the other Nightrunners and it's like. 9S gets the sense that this is a guy who he can trust to have his back. Lambert seems to take the time to get to know his team plus the people in the carnival and 9S can tell that Lambert is doing his best to keep everyone in one piece even if everyone is not very good at keeping themselves in one piece. Especially now that 9S learned that Command back home has basically been stabbing him in the back this entire time, 9S' lot is pretty much fully on Lambert's side of things. Sure he doesn't always make good decisions but at least he'll do his best to do right by the Carnival. And honestly that's all 9S could ever ask for.
