it is that's all there is nothing more

ok but more seriously, the relationship between Lambert and Childermass is a very conflicted one, at least on his own part. The attraction between the two isn't one he ever intended to follow up on, if ever, as originally he took everything that Lambert did prior to Portland as a running gag from the witcher. He was only trying to piss him off with how often he got up close and personal with him, it ultimately coming to a head out in the woods where Childermass actually got mad enough to up and storm off through the shadows over it. It would only be after Portland that he actually realized, no, Lambert wasn't just fucking around, but can anyone really blame that misunderstanding? Lambert is a huge asshole.

And he still thinks that, even after everything else, but now he's a huge asshole who wants to screw him, so. Big shrug. Childermass isn't opposed to casual hook-ups, so Lambert lucks out on that part. The real problem lays in getting attached to said hook-up, which Lambert is arguably having a tougher time with than the magician himself is. He doesn't wear his heart on his sleeve — or even anywhere else that would be visible — and so how he feels beyond physical attraction will remain a great mystery.

Relationship troubles aside, he appreciates how Lambert just says what he's thinking on pretty much anything else. It makes working with him easier, actually, because he knows what to expect. The temper doesn't frighten him in the least, which means even if that 'saying what he's thinking' involves yelling, Childermass just doesn't care. As long as it gets the job done, right? And besides, it's obvious the man cares for those who work for him, which makes how mean he can act hold less water in the magician's eyes. In that, they have something in common, in a weird way. Both care about people quite a bit, they just don't show it in normally accepted ways.

He also appreciates that he's given Strange an actual friend when the poor madman needs one most. It isn't a role Childermass thinks he will ever be able to take, with how English society works and what their relationship — or lack thereof — before was.
