Okay, so remember that thread where Tamaki pointed out something and Strange responded "whoa, smart response there". That's it, that's their cr. He enjoys talking with Tamaki because he's got a good head on his shoulders and knows when to fold 'em—especially since people have been getting kidnapped, Strange is just so thankful that Tamaki hasn't, because he knows he'd beat himself up so badly were that the case. And, for all his Tamakiness, he's a lot smarter and a lot more detail-oriented than he appears. Tamaki is definitely someone who Strange would consider talking with or running theories by because it's a guarantee that Tamaki would notice something that his scatterbrained self would overlook.

He also hasn't forgotten Tamaki trying to possess brainwashed Strange in Portland and that's just earned a billion karma points. Because that was Tamaki being brave and smart in a crisis situation and lord only knows if Strange would have had the presence of mind to do something like that were he in Tamaki's shoes. Basically, if Tamaki wanted to do something that others might not be so sure about, Strange would be the one piping up from the back and saying "actually, give him a chance, the dude's way more competent than he appears."
