Cole's responses are easier to answer because of that whole "he's had one conversation with people" thing. so Rita! Rita seems cool! Rita seems like she knows what she's doing! Ergo, Cole is going to gladly listen to Rita and trust her decisions and this cannot possibly end up badly or give Rita a bit of a power trip, no sirree

9S also seems cool! And 9S also seems like he knows what he's doing! And 9S is perfectly willing to grapple with terrible questions like "the nature of morality" and "what it means to be alive" so 9S has also risen up in the ranks of people that Cole can ask questions to. It also helps that 9S is someone who's just rolled with Cole's everything like "okay! This is a thing!" and hasn't pressed/questioned him as much on some of his more esoteric points...because Cole's understood that as 9S understanding him pretty well to begin with.

There is just so much internal blame and internal loathing and confusion that Cole doesn't really know how best to tackle the big ol'mess of hurt that is Julien Delacroix but somehow, he's going to try and make it better and try to piece out the hurt because at his core, Cole is 100% an optimist.

Once the Prince situation is sorted out Julien will be better able to blame the Prince for it (because seriously, what the fuck, what the fuck, what an asshole) but he'll still absolutely feel guilty. And like he really shouldn't tell people about his problems because wow did that get bad.

you know that scene in trespasser where Lavellan picks the romance option despite the fact that the narrative has already proven that Solas is garbage and the romance isn't the best but she's all "I have to save Solas!" and there's just a chain of "Cassandra disapproves, Varric disapproves, Dorian disapproves" and then in the end, it pops up "Cole greatly approves"?

Lambert may be grumpy and drunk and doesn't like it when Cole looks in his mind but he has found those seeds of a miracle romance and it might not be a good idea or even that much of a miracle romance to begin with but dangit, it makes Lambert happy so Cole's going to help and it's gonna happen whether Lambert or Childermass like it or not (nobody introduce Cole to Steven or tell him about Portland)
