OOPS PUT SYR ON SYR I GUESS

But hooooooooooooo. Hooooooboy. Yuuya.

Yuuya is hands down, Gongenzaka's best friend in all of existence. He signed on, arguably, for Yuuya-in fact he was originally going to sign on without real payment, feeling that training to face their opponent was worth it enough! And then Yuuya actually appears, and tells him the future, and things get....Scary. Upsetting even. Portland happens in particular, and somehow that if anything re-ignites and turns an already sturdy bond into an impossible to extinguish bonfire though. Yeah, he forgot his friend-but on top of that event leading to them having a much needed confession moment, they BECAME friends even as different people.

CLEARLY, IT'S FATE YUUYA. But that said, Portland also obviously left its scars. For one, he had to admit to his own actions in the past-just as Yuuya had. For another, Yuuya's soul was damaged, and while there wasn't any preventing that, Gongenzaka had to watch his recovery, and it absolutely would have stung. When it comes to Yuuya, he may try more now to let his friend stand on their own feet, but with dangerous matters it's really hard to just stand idle.

Heck, they had a whole OTHER conversation about that, and we saw where that went. It's impossible for him to simply let that go-even his more 'rational' side, the side that knows where to sit back and watch, when it's best to sit for the sake of their health, can't just stay behind if Yuuya's in danger. It's something that's going to still be hard to do even after the new contract is made-because even if there's insurance, death is death.

And he doesn't want Yuuya to think about, or remember that kind of thing. Being able to at least be at his friend's side through the worst of things is important-it's a part of why he wants to only go as far as Yuuya has been in 'time', and an even bigger part of why he's forcing himself to be more calm about what's happened to him.

Because for him, Yuuya's smile, Yuuya's heart, that's what makes things worth it. He's his best friend, his 'brother', practically, and he'll be damned if he has to watch that smile break for such reasons again.

Of course, lately it breaks because of....Him....but he's working on that. He'll fix it, honest!

SANS....Ok so

We know that at the start of things, it's...Pretty rocky between these two. Gongenzaka isn't someone who likes even the IMAGE of laziness, and boy howdy is Sans good at the image, at the very least. Gongenzaka's own brand of concern also clashed spectacularly when it came to things like joking about rule breaking and similar-so even with the knowledge that Sans WOULDN'T, he....well. We saw how things went. It's a somewhat broken habit by now, but his twisted sense of responsibility and attachment really got in the way when it came to unnecessary warnings.

That aside.

The Carnival has been through A LOT, and Gongenzaka's now had a proper amount of time to actually see Sans at work through it. After all, back when they had that conversation, Gon knew him more as a former coworker-not as the Warden. Given time though? He was more than able to see why Sans was warden; and that's not saying he doubted his skills, he just wondered why the Ringmaster would put someone who...probably didn't want that kind of leadership in that role.

And well, the answer in his mind is...because he was going to be the best one for that role, despite that. Regardless of whatever Sans says in a more sarcastic manner, he's delivered; at the end of the day, the job, the KEY part of the job, has been done. Seeing that sort of thing, seeing that kind of drive, that is what brings Gongenzaka to determine that yes. This is someone he would not only fight for, but would follow to hell and back (but good god, he hopes they never have to do that for someone else, because hell sucks).

Now...he might be ready and willing to fight by his side, but that doesn't mean he's not going to get a little irritated by some of San's habits still. Like names. And seeming to not care about something. Or sitting around when a task really doesn't actually need Sans' involment but DAMMIT YOU COULD DO SOMETHING MAN!

Just saying, there's a reason Gongenzaka gets along well with Papyrus.

Fortunately though, Marishi finds Sans pretty hilarious-she's basically Gon's fun side, so go figure. At least PART of Gon can appreciate all his puns.

CAPSLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOCK!

Gongenzaka REALLY LIKES PAPYRUS, go figure. Something about that equal Hype and Emotion behind action. He really values someone who can put volume into what they do, but more than that, he's had the chance to have some more meaningful conversations with the guy. As someone about to inherit a family business more or less, he's already aware of the pressure of some kind of leadership position-but hearing what Papyrus had to carry?

That's huge man. And Papyrus has a lot of heart behind what he wants to do, and what he's trying to do. He's doing more than trying to keep things stable, he's trying to bring things to a point where it'll be better, even if he's not the center of it. He's an incredibly unselfish guy in Gongenzaka's eyes, and someone that honestly, he'd trust to have his back in a fight.

Maybe he's a little out there at times, sure, but that's a quirk! Everyone's got those, just look at his canon-

He Does wonder how he eats though. And tries not to think about it.

OH BOY, ZANGETSU.

So right off, Zangetsu initially struck Gon as....Rude. Super rude. He's still rude, but there's more too it, obviously. Zangetsu's entire introductory spiel about being a weapon put a lot of things on the base, after all. Normally, Gongenzaka would be disgusted by most of Zangetsu's beliefs. At least the violent ones. But the fact that Zangetsu is....rather LITERALLY an actual sword at the core (also a giant soul eating monster but shh), sort of puts a proper perspective on it. What do swords do? They kill. There is no getting around that. Killing can be done in the name of protection and other things, but it's still killing.

And besides that, Zangetsu's reasoning for being there is...ultimately running rather well with that. But I can't recall if he KNOWS that so, -shoos that point away-

In any case, coming to know Zangetsu as his trailermate has been an interesting journey, since it also means he's seen the guy's 'softer ends'. Namely....an enjoyment for puppies and cats, and also those weird pjs that he really didn't think he'd ever see a sword wearing. Wow. Sparring with him also tells Gongenzaka that for all that Zangetsu lives by instinct, there IS a certain level of care and honor there, or at least what he could call it. Zangetsu could wipe the floor with him. Easy. There's no questioning that. But the fact that he actually takes the care to spar with him in a way that doesn't leave it a .2 second battle says that there's some actual effort going into it to make sure that both are getting something out of it.

And Gongenzaka respects that a lot. The fact is, as much as he really, REALLY wishes he didn't get his arm ripped off? He knows who Zangetsu more or less is by now. There's a reason he made the warning as he did, instead of even trying to convince Zangetsu to back off. More importantly, there's a reason he begged Zangetsu to help, even if the guy had to walk off after a few seconds.

As much as he is violent, crude, and absolutely the worst kind of glutton ever....he's also someone who stands by what he says. Zangetsu doesn't have a reason to really -lie-, at least not in the context of his own morals or beliefs. So Gongenzaka can trust him-at least enough to be 'Zangetsu', and even enough to actually listen when he asks for his help.

Of course, he can't completely blame the guy if he ditches due to his friend's idiocy on that note but...anyway.

Given the upcoming arm shenanigans that are due to come, this trust is probably only going to increase; he very much values their friendship, as...Odd as it is.

CONNIEEEEEE...

Fact: I'd be stoked if at one point in time they do a patrol with Connie on his back-

Anyway. From what little has been said, and done, Connie has made an IMMENSELY positive impression on Gongenzaka. Being able to decipher his name, recognizing the plants on his body, not even batting an eye at how he speaks! Despite him getting the impression that she's likely 'American' or similar, he gets the read of someone who is fairly open to other cultures, and accepting for that matter, and he's really, REALLY happy about that. Connie has right off the bat cemented herself as 'Really Awesome' in his books, and I have no doubts that once they meet again, he'll be greeting her with a relieved hug given the events of the ball.

So uh...Watch your back, Connie? (He might break it...)
