Really? [A pause.] Is it because your wife doesn't like it?

[ Strange nods. ] There was a period of time where I did something rash and dangerous because of my magic. [ like, you know, every goddamn day. ] Arabella wasn't pleased, we got into an argument, and I realized that if I had to choose between my magic and her happiness, I'd pick her happiness.

[hippocarnival]

... Don't you do rash and dangerous things even without magic? [He's not seeing what the breaking point here is, though he can understand Arabella's frustration.] Like climbing up trellises.

Exploring a sealed away faerie realm is a different branch of dangerous than climbing up trellises.

A subset of faerie runs parallel to my world, accessible through what are called the king's roads—roads that connect places in faerie, built by the Raven King. I rediscovered the pathways and spent an entire evening lost on the roads, exploring everything that faerie and the Raven King's roads had to offer. I thought it was amazing, a magical discovery that I could explore and spend time searching. Arabella thought it was dangerous.

It was, of course. But I couldn't see the danger at the time.

Something can be dangerous and exciting. Maybe if you were being more careful, or... has she ever tried using magic herself?

[kingsroads]

[ And Strange shakes his head. ]

You have to understand: for the longest time, English magic was sealed away. Only certain people could access it—I can only think of four specifically. Even if the tried and wanted to use magic, there's a possibility that while I was a magician, she simply couldn't.

[hippocarnival]

Oh, right. [Never know if you never try, though! Though she may just be happier not being a magician.]

What's been your favorite memory from your time at the carnival?

My favorite? [That's hard, actually, because he has a bunch that actually make him happy to recall. People he was glad to meet, experiences he loved sharing with them... it would almost be easier to pick his worst memory.]

Mm... I think when me and Lambert took the hot air balloon in the Summerlands. And then we had to call everyone.

It was a lot of fun, and being there... things weren't so hard at the time.

[kingsroads]

I still can't believe he steered you into that tree.

We really wanted to see the unicorns. [Yuya knows exactly what level of dumbass they are.] I'm going to find them when we go back to the Summerlands.

It hasn't all been bad, but I guess... since Academia attacked back home, I appreciate things being normal and safe a lot more.

And since the carnival devolved into this level of insanity, [ said as he gives Yuya a vague hand gesture. ]

[Yuya laughs.] Okay, truth or dare?

[kingsroads]

Truth.

[hippocarnival]

Um... you said you wanted to be someone's priority in the carnival, right? Was there someone you wanted to be yours?

[kingsroads]

[ There's a pause, while Strange frowns a little. Shit has suddenly gotten real! ]

Uh... either? Both? [It would probably be mutual and not singular pining, right?]

I know that no one will be my personal highest priority: that will always be Arabella. Given the choice between her and the carnival, I'll always pick her. But as for inside the carnival, yes. Even though I know it will never happen, there is someone who I wish I was their highest priority.

Because most of the people you mentioned, they were all close back home first... like you love Arabella so much no one else will be as important even if she's not here right now.
