As for the matter of existing shadows, this is quite easy; the Ringmaster gave Carly an object called 'the cloak of shadows' during the solstice. It's a two-piece set consisting of body suit and cloak. It was. Technically intended as sleepwear (laughs), but it completely hides/neutralizes all light being cast from her form.
