[ Throughout Josh's entire emotional ordeal, Childermass is merely calm, almost impassive about the younger man's terror. There isn't much more he can do, anyway, besides be patient and try to offer help. Well, short of shaking him until he makes more sense, but that really won't help, either.

He'll move from keeping his hands up, in sight, to turning a little to one side and sweeping an arm back to gesture in that direction, further into the carnival.
