Sooo starting with the less complicated first impressions and early interactions, Rita likes 9S a lot!

As someone who loves technology and was once herself on the verge of developing ultra-basic AI (golems), meeting someone with highly advanced AI is amazing and inspiring in a lot of ways. Rita is constantly fascinated by 9S’s capabilities and especially by his ability to think, reason, and feel so much like a human would. Even when she’s mad at him, there’s a part of her mind going “this is amazing!!” and on some level, trying to imagine the sort of programming that could give him such a complex personality.

There are some aspects of his design that she questions (why the soft skin? why can you get drunk? why are you so dramatic?) but it ultimately just adds to the fascinating mysteries of androids that Rita feels compelled to try to understand.

But putting the android stuff aside, 9S is also someone she has a lot of overlapping interests with. He’s someone she can talk technology with who not only will understand what the hell she’s talking about, but even has advanced knowledge he can contribute to such discussions. His willingness to help with her research is greatly appreciated, and hey, he even cleans! So Rita’s happy to have him around.

But then the ball happened and OH BOY was that a rollercoaster of emotions. Even though Rita has a crush back home, being faced with what seemed like a love confession made her stop and question her feelings, her future, and also feel kind of flattered because she loves technology and now technology loves her??? But then he ditched her for his hot android girlfriend and now Rita feels very stupid for getting caught up in the moment, and that makes her super mad.
