periphrasing: (Let's get started!)

Yeah, these two definitely DID NOT get off on the right foot. Fortunately, things have turned around a lot! In a weird way, they have Portland to thank for that, for giving Peridot a reason to reassess Strange as a person rather than just writing him off as That Dude who dissed her robots that one time. As long as the discussion stays FAR AWAY from the whole “which is better, magic or tech” debate, I think they’ll stay chill and continue to become good friends.

Anyway, Strange is one of the ONLY people at the carnival that Peridot views as being on the same level as her intellectually, which… trust me, that is HIGH PRAISE. Not an easy level to reach. And she feels this way even though his area of academic expertise is VASTLY different from her own! Strange is bright, enthusiastic, and she knows that there’s a heck of a lot that she can learn from him. Having a friend who knows a lot about magic AND who can keep up with her feverish energy and relentless questioning is invaluable to her. Privately, I think she hopes that one day he might ask her to teach him about mechanics and engineering, so she can give him something just as valuable in return..

I think they need to spend more time together and get to know each other more before they really hit the CLOSE FRIEND zone, but at this point Peridot would still readily go to bat for Strange.
