I am sorry in advance but Strange will never think of Carly as "someone in a position of authority." It's not because of that 'we used to be coworkers' thing but it's because she's Carly. She's way too excitable, way too over the top, and Strange honestly has no idea how she'll survive in a crisis situation when she can't solve the problem with fire. Still, just because he doesn't view her as someone with authority, he still views her as someone who he can talk with. She's fun and she's surprisingly capable in some regards.

Despite Strange's all "I dunno...." at the time, the bad decisions with the magic spellbook has endeared Carly to him in a way that a lot of her previous actions hadn't. Because yes, it was kind of a bad idea but #yolo, impulse control is for suckers. And now that he knows there's someone who's also on team impulse control is for suckers, Carly has officially become a Person He Knows He Can Bother in Strange's mind—and he'll gladly help continue with the bad decisions, just when everybody's not freaking the hell out because of spooky manor.
