AU ROLE CALL↴
Now that you've had a week to plan, this is the official role call post for the AU. Please reply to whatever header your character is included in with a summary of their role in Portland, with your character's name in the post subject. You can just copy and paste summaries used in the plotting post if you like, though for the same of mod plotting I would ask that you name and bold any of the following in your descriptions:
- Organizations: If your character is in a group or organization of any kind, please bold it! This will be important for the dispensing of IC clues and NPC attention.
- NPC Connections: If your character has a powerful NPC of any kind that they are connection to, please list and bold them. The mods will be writing some of these NPCs into the metaplot, and we can't do that if we don't know they exist!
- Meetup Points: If your character runs or is affiliated with anything that could be considered a supernatural hangout, it would be useful to make them easy to find, for the sakes of people who want to know what kind of places will be available in Portland for their characters to hang out.
Confirming your concepts in this post is not mandatory, but I would super appreciate anyone who does. If you do not reply to this post, your character will not be tied into the metaplot. Additionally, I will give everyone who does reply a +2 AC point bonus to their next activity check, per character they reply with.
Concepts are due May 31st. |
Sherlock Holmes
Born in Sussex in the late 1850s, he found a home in London and became a consulting detective. He achieved a modest level of local fame, nothing to the extent of how well he is known in his original world, but enough that someone with moderate interest in historical crime would know who he was.
Eventually, he was lured to the Reichenbach Falls in Switzerland by his archenemy, an evil maths professor who was dead set on proving himself to be the cleverest man in the world, setting up murderous games to lure in other geniuses to kill them. In 1893, Sherlock grappled with him at the Reichenbach Falls, but both fell over the Falls.
It turns out the Professor was attempting to learn the secret of prolonging life, and used Sherlock's dead body in a magical experiment in the woods off of the river. Sherlock's soul was bound to his body in a shoddy way, and while his experiment was somewhat a success, he tossed Sherlock in the river to eventually decay while still being conscious, as a last bit of gleeful revenge. Helen found Sherlock before too much damage could be done, but the patch-up job on his zombie self was horrific to the human psyche, and she repaired the damage and anchored him properly, and also wiped his memory to avoid trauma. His 'rebirth' thus remained a mystery to him for years, even though he knew Helen must know the truth.
Sherlock continued his detective work, going on crime-solving adventures with Helen, as well as assisting with her London Sanctuary and helping found the Portland Sanctuary.
By the time the current year rolled around, he was more than a century old and in constant need of repair. He retained none of his original limbs, opting to use prosthetics, but mostly other people's limbs, muscle, skin and bits and bobs from the hospital morgue where he currently works as a forensic pathologist (basically he does what Molly Hooper does from his canon). He pretty much has full run of the Morgue and fills in for whatever is needed morgue-wise because most people would gladly let a zombie deal with the dead since they don't have to worry about it themselves. Or the smell. He's still a consulting detective and is often hired by the Coroner to determine causes of death, as he's an expert. He would have gotten the proper degrees at some point for this job too, since he's had quite a bit of time to himself. He assists Gon with his vampiric needs by letting him drain bodies and granting him access to the blood bank and waste-blood that isn't usable for humans.
He also keeps weapons and guns inside a container in his mostly empty torso.
He's led a quiet life since leaving England and most people don't remember Sherlock Holmes, despite having been semi-famous in the turn of the century. He's faced entirely too much discrimination against the dead, and doesn't want to risk getting that famous again as it's tedious. So he quietly solves mysteries in Portland and helps Helen with the Sanctuary. He's probably well-known among the dead, as he's met many ghosts through the morgue, like Tamaki and Jimmy. There may be a loose information network of sorts between the dead folk he knows, as he can get clues and information about murders quite easily this way. He also uses Allen's homeless network for information. He hangs out at the Crossroads and gets info from the seedy underbelly there too. He knows Zecora from the hospital. He's probably known among anyone that's been to the Sanctuary, like Sans.
His body is a mess by now, a patchwork job of replacement parts, and he has no idea how or why he's still around. However his head is still in fairly good shape, and he only looks gray and pale, with dark circles under his near-white, frosted eyes. He wears gloves and his long coat to hide everything else.
He tries to use febreeze a lot.
The Professor is still out there, biding his time, as he became a lich with the information he'd learned from his original experiment. He occasionally throws Sherlock and Helen the odd impossible mystery, but he's become even more twisted over the years, and would love nothing more than to ruin their lives.
