Vincent hasn't actually laundered this cloak in.... 33 years. Which is to say, at any point since he 'acquired' it. He thinks better of saying this, though. Last time he said something about it, he'd narrowly escaped being laundered himself, cloak and all.

Instead, he says, "I'm just.... looking for eggs."

It's not a graceful deflection, especially when his delivery is that stiff and awkward.
