Lost Carnival Mods ([personal profile] ringleaders) wrote in [community profile] livinglot2017-05-17 02:20 pm

Events leading up to this location will be as normal. After Mainframe, the carnival will go into its usual travelling/transitional period for a few days, with no particular warnings or expectations. Normally this would be where I explain how the characters will entering the setting and what they will immediately see, but this is not a normal occasion.

Mostly because no one will have any idea how or why the carnival entered this universe - in fact, they may not remember entering anywhere at all.

Portland, USA is similar to the one of our modern earth in many ways, even if some of those are purely superficial. Importantly, it is the urban fantasy equivalent, meaning that standard city life is underlain with a complex civilization of 'supernaturals,' whose actions have the tendency to shake the world in unseen ways. It's a common formula in the multiverse, and some carnival workers may even come from a world much like it. The major difference here is this world in particular has managed to pull the carnival into its snare in an unprecedented way.

From the start of this visit an onward, the carnival will be rewritten into this world's rules - and in more than just a superficial sense. On day one, your characters will find themselves having awoken into completely new lives, with potentially no memory of anything that came before. How exactly this transition took place will start out unclear, and this will be a plot heavy narrative centered around investigation and the discovery of what has happened, and how those trapped here can leave.

Twenty five years ago, this world underwent a process sometimes know as "the Severing", in which a magical ritual of great power was used to severe the ties between earth and a number of otherworldly realms that had been cross-inhabiting it. The realms of faerie, heaven, and hell were disconnected entirely, stranding many of their members on earth with no way of returning home. The details of this ritual and its purpose are elusive, but its effects have spanned the globe.

Most supernatural stuff in this world is simply referred to as "magic", which is built upon an animistic reality in which all living creatures and all objects have some essence of "spirit" that can be interacted with. Casting and ritual magic is primarily centered upon esoteric means of interacting with these spirits in order to invoke various effects, while the magic of many supernatural creatures are considered to be innate traits of their species.

NOTE: This is a setting where magic is basically a "known secret", in that many people are factually aware of the supernatural, but it doesn't get talked about in public. Most people have probably seen something weird at some point in their life, but the supernatural is not officially recognized in society. Most of humanity does its best to try to pretend it doesn't exist, in order to avoid gaining the wrong kind of attention. So, you couldn't talk about doing magic on live TV, but there are a lot of places where you could get away with people seeing your supernatural traits if you keep to the 'underground.'

Upon entering this setting, every character will be mentally and physically inserted into the world, as if they've always been there. Bodies will be changed to something appropriate to the setting (which may or may not be the most similar to what they already have), and history will be rewritten to accommodate their presence. However, this rewritten history will not always be the most complete, or the most resistant to actual scrutiny. It's a patch job, and so some facts may not line up, and many details of past events may seem vague or incomplete if the character manages to think about it seriously. Locals memories of your characters will be similar - you have been inserted into their lives, but they may not be able to recall when they actually met you, or they could be missing large pieces of your childhood together. Everyone will compulsively feel the desire to ignore these inconsistencies, but the spell is not strong enough to keep them from examining these gaps if they are alerted to their presence.

There are three different ways you can handle your character's memories:
  1. Full Amnesia: Your character will start out remembering nothing about their real life, and will fully believe they are a part of this world and always have been. Fuzzy bits of memories won't immediately occur to them, and they will have to regain memories as the event progresses.
  2. Half and Half: They will have some memories of their true life, but also many memories from their invented one. To them, it will seem as if they have suddenly remember a whole other life before the one they are living now, and at the beginning they will have no way of knowing for sure which is real.
  3. Complete Recovery: Your character will remember everything about their real life from day one, and it will be more or less as if they have abruptly been displaced from the carnival into someone else's shoes. They'll still be remembered by some Portland locals, but they will have to improvise in order to play along, because they won't have a clue what anyone is talking about.

How long it takes your character to regain memories is purely up to you. You can allow their amnesia to affect them until the bitter end, or having it clear up after the first week. Either is fine. This event will be running for 1-2 OOC months, and so pace accordingly. The Patrons section below is filled with both the kinds of people the world is inhabited with, and also what kinds of people your characters might become.

NOTE: The magic causing this will not create new humans or other creatures from scratch in order to fill backstory blanks. Any roles you need filled in your characters new life will have to be taken by either another carnival member's new identity, or by a local who was here before you arrived. That said, if you want to have locals that have odd similarities to characters from your real backstory present, that is fine, but they won't be total dopplegangers and will have lives of their own. You will be free to NPC them, however.

► HUMAN: First and foremost, you can be a regular ‘ol human. They represent the vast majority of the actual population. Their lives are the typical modern experience, except for all the places where the supernatural tends to stick its head out and wag its tongue on occasion. Many humans have had supernatural experiences in this world, but most of them aren’t commonly believed or discussed. Talking about the supernatural too loudly and too publicly tends to result in attracting the wrong sorts of attention. Both government and occult coverups have been a thing in the past.

Of course, not all humans are born precisely “regular”, either. Sometimes, a human will be born already imbued with the essence of magic, resulting in a wide range of potential powers, such as psychic abilities or even things like pyrokinesis. These are most often mentally focused abilities, usually a form of ESP, but not always. Humans with these abilities can also sometimes be created with outside tampering, but that can become a nasty business.

Common Features: normal human stuff, minor physical abnormalities.
Potential Abilities: ESP, minor psionics, spirit medium.

► MAGE: Theoretically, any type of person can be a mage, but humans were the ones that made it popular. While other species tend to rely on inborn magical skills, being a full fledged mage is built upon a foundation of secret knowledge and ritual skills - actively learning how to bend the etheric energies of the world around them instead of simply using magic in the ways they were born to. Classically, this tends to result in a mage having less overtly ‘powerful’ but more diverse skillsets. Of course, that doesn’t mean you can’t spend your time learning almost exclusively how to blow things up.

Knowledge is something that can be hoarded, however, which means that mage culture tends to be secretive and elitist, with ancient societies keeping a lot of the really good shit to themselves. Newer, more freeform mages are left with a few choices: to join these old covens and follow their rules in exchange for secrets, to steal that information from said covens, or to research and discover their own tricks from the world around them. It’s a tough world out there for the aspiring spellcrafter.

Actual spells tend to be comprised of ritual acts, recitation of words, and other formulaic interactions with the world. If you’re good enough at a spell, then you will eventually be able to find shortcuts that allow you to ease its casting.

Common Features: normal human stuff, minor physical abnormalities.
Potential Abilities: ESP, psionics, ritual and casting magics of any kind.

► WARLOCK: Sort of a mage, sort of not. These humans use magic by channelling energy from a powerful supernatural entity. Demon worshippers and fae servants, and are good examples. They tend to be looked down on my “real” mages because it is considered a reckless shortcut to power that ensures that the individual is under the thumb of a supernatural creature with most likely dubious intentions.

Common Features: physical abnormalities related to their supernatural patron.
Potential Abilities: any kind of power that can be gifted by their patron.

► CHANGELING: When the world was cut off from outside dimensions, it left a number of fae stranded in this reality - and they have been making it everyone else’s problem ever since. While most true fae hide themselves away within their own twisted sections of reality, they also have a nasty habit of branching out from their territory long enough to create fae-human hybrids.

This can happen a number of different ways, but all of them tend to be referred to as “changelings” regardless of the specifics. The classic example of a changeling is when a fae steals away a human baby, leaving a fake replacement long enough to instill their essence into the real child. The length of time they keep the baby could be months or years, but eventually they tend to give the child back to its parents, with the intent of demanding the services of that changeling once they have reached adulthood. On some occasions, that child is never returned and the magical replacement will die an early death due to nebulous illness.

In other cases, a changeling child can be conceived by literally breeding with a mortal. This is more hands on than many fae like to get, but it still happens frequently enough to be a known phenomenon. Sometimes that child is taken back to the fae parent’s realm afterwards, or sometimes it will be left under the care of the mortal. The context of these situations vary wildly, since it usually depends on the relationship between the fae and mortal, and what the intent of the birth was. If the child is left with the mortal parent, it isn’t uncommon for them to be called upon by their fae parent for service once they have become an adult.

Otherwise, a changeling can be any mortal that has been “corrupted” enough by the fae to become one. All forms of changelings tend to be treated with fear and disgust by other supernaturals, as true fae are not well liked in a general sense. Most fae in this world are apparently of “the Summer Court.”

Common Features: pointed ears, non-angelic/demonic wings, elemental traits (plants, fire, weather, light in particular), strange eyes, strange auras.
Potential Abilities: lesser versions of powers within their fae parent’s domain, usually fire, light, nature, growth, glamour, enchantment or transfiguration focused.

► ANGEL: Fae weren’t the only extra-dimensional travellers to become stranded when the Severing happened - there were hosts of angels and demons present as well, all of which were prevented from returning to their homelands of heaven and hell. In the angels’ case most of them had been on earth for benevolent reasons, moving among the local populace as guardians, psychopomps, and warriors fighting against their counterparts, the demons. Suffice to say, reactions at having been cut off from heaven have varied.

Some angels have seen it as a betrayal, coming to resent the humans for trapping them here, gradually falling away from their duties and instead focusing on enacting their will upon the world to whatever capacity they see fit. Others have simply carried on, believing that ultimately this is better than the earth being constantly under siege by demons and fae. Some were completely left without direction, utterly lost in a world without heaven.

Angels vary in power depending on their rank, and while some of the higher tiers are still on earth, most are from the lower ranks - guardians and soldiers. Before the Severing, angels would help to guide souls to their destination or earth (primarily to keep them away from demonic clutches), or would occasionally award particularly virtuous souls a free pass to join heaven as an angel. That, of course, is no longer possible.

Common Features: angelic wings, halos, auras of light - angels are spirits and can shape their forms in various ways, though most have a human visage that is seen by those without magic sight.
Potential Abilities: holy magic, light magic, healing abilities, regeneration, purification, smiting, high speed flight, invisibility and/or intangibility, spirit guiding.

► DEMON: Demons were on earth for more nefarious reasons than angels, attempting to drag lost souls down to hell or, at best, just partying on earth as destructively as they liked. Hell isn’t that fun in the long term, after all, so many saw it as an opportunity to expand their interests and claim territory. This is bad mostly because a lot of demons are straight up assholes.

When the severing happened, it prevented them from continuing to take souls to hell - of course, a lot of demons didn’t even really care about that, as they’d mostly been doing that on the orders of their Demon Lords in the first place. With no hell to return to, many demons were just pleased as punch to to continue living out their immortality with reckless abandon. Meanwhile, some of the more powerful demons were enraged to lose the resources and control their kingdoms in hell had afforded them, and have made it their mission to drag as many of the lesser demons into their services as possible, in order to recreate those kingdoms on earth.

Demonkind has been in a bit of a civil war, between the demons that want to assemble as an army, and the ones that just want to be left alone to their hedonistic ways. Though, it would be easier to just chill if the angels weren’t still trying to kill them.

Common Features: horns, demon wings, fire, scales, various predator traits, tails with or without blades - like angels, most will have a human visage that is seen by mundane humans.
Potential Abilities: hellfire, dark magic, mind control, super strength, soul stealing, corruption, seduction.

► UNDEAD: This covers any creature that is primarily a dead thing still inhabiting the earth. Vampires, zombies, and ghosts are all forms of the undead in this word, and in most cases magic has somehow been used to keep them “living” despite being technically expired.

Vampires are of a more classic Dracula-esque variety. They are actual living corpses that may or may not develop bat traits over time. They are kept living by a contagious form of blood sorcery that was started thousands of years ago, and has been mostly propagated by the act of sharing blood with an existing vampire. Presumably bats had something to do with the original magic, due to the traits vampires will sometimes pick up. Holy objects and the sun risk dispelling the blood magic that keeps them alive, meaning that exposure will hurt and possibly kill them. They tend to sleep during the day as a result, but aren’t required to. They require the blood of the living to continue extending their lives, and though animals besides humans do work, humans are by far the most delicious and nutritious.

Common Features: sharp fangs, stone textured skin, red eyes, bat features.
Potential Abilities: super speed, super strength, regeneration, hypnosis, turning into a bat and/or growing bat wings.

Zombies are more or less just corpses that are still inhabited by the soul of the person whose body it is. There are various magical ways of attaining this status, but it isn’t a particularly fun or glamorous one. Zombie bodies don’t heal, and while additional injuries won’t kill them (obviously), they can make it nearly impossible for the zombie to function without being repaired. Sometimes mages will become liches, which are especially powerful zombies that have enough magic that they can maintain their dead bodies more effectively. Most mages abhor liches though, because people who practice necromancy tend to be pretty awful.

Common Features: rotting, visible injuries, being a corpse.
Potential Abilities: remaining active despite catastrophic injuries, being repaired like an object, replacing body parts with artificial ones with no loss of dexterity.

Ghosts are just the souls of the dead, who haven’t passed on for whatever reason. Usually it is on account of some lingering attachment to the world of the living. Some ghosts will be nearly as present as they were when alive, but others will corrupted or obsessed from having died, and lose many aspects of their true personality. Even the most stable ghosts tend to become more imbalanced and irrational with time. Since the Severing happened, there has been a notable uptick in lost spirits, mostly due to the relative lack of psychopomps to escort them to the afterlife.

Common Features: being dead, being intangible, monochrome, scary ghost mutations.
Potential Abilities: intangibility, invisibility, “poltergeist” telekinesis, possessing stuff.

► WEREBEAST: Any human that can turn into a particular animal, and has the abilities or traits of said animal in day to day life. This can be pretty much any creature, though it tends towards predators. (Or, at least, those are the ones that survive.) Werebeast’s souls are at least part animal, which allows them to change their forms and draw on that spirits true power. This transformation is usually voluntary, though certain stimulus can make it happen compulsively, such as being in a great state of stress or the various equivalents of a “full moon.” While the triggers of a werewolf are the most commonly known, they are definitely not the only ones out there.

The beast form of a werebeast tends to be a larger or slightly more humanoid version of whatever animal they share a spirit with. The physical nature of a beast form will vary from individual to individual.

Common Features: minor animal traits while humanoid, major animal traits when transformed.
Potential Abilities: super strength, super agility, animal senses, traits specific to their animal spirit.

► ETCETERA: Though these are the main categories, there is room for some edge cases. If you have a particular idea, ask the mods and we will see what we can come up with. Things like half vampires, half angels, and half demons do exist, and what they take away from their heritage can vary. These cases are rare but not unprecedented.

Even if you don't remember coming from the outside... some of the people here may notice something odd about you. This has the potential to bring the carnival members a lot of attention, from both friend and foe alike. Be careful of which locals you trust, because everyone's got an agenda.

All characters will be physically changed to fit their roles as soon as the event begins, which means you can have them look any way that is reasonable for Portland's native species. They can also be somewhat younger or older than they usually are, within reason, if it works better for your concept. (This isn't a de-aging event though, so no making your characters kids just for the sake of making them kids.) Participation in this event will allow them to come away with at least one Uncommon change, based on their new forms. Exceptional participation and success in unraveling the plot will allow for some Rare changes to be kept as well, by individuals who have played key roles in progressing the narrative.

Beyond that, this is a PLOTTING POST, which means you can use it to make plans! The game chat is also a great place to discuss plots, so we welcome you to pop on in if you haven't already! A mingle log will be posted this weekend.

Scout is a human mage with the Circle! She's with an old coven - well, 'old', it was formed in the 1960s by wizard hippies, but has become more set and stolid by now - and is a dedicated overachiever who studies really, really hard and knows something about everything, even if that something isn't entirely correct. Think Hermione. Her raw power is pretty minor, she has some psionic ability, but being in a setting where magic is about knowledge and learning means she's actually a pretty good young mage. Might be 19 or 20 and I'm thinking nearly-full amnesia.

She mostly goes by Tallisibeth and variations - you might call her Tali, Liz, Beth, what have you - and goes more by Scout to mages. Her ever-present backpack and cargo pants or shorts are always stuffed with ritual ingredients and diagrams on folded paper, and she's got a little device with a stylus for notes. You see her a lot in libraries and bookstores and people usually have the impression that she's a college student with a heavy course load. She does t‘ai-chi and has pieced together a way to summon a sword of blue flame that may or may not be actually an angel weapon but isn't nearly the fighter Real Scout is. Dances great though!

Tallisibeth is expected to apprentice to an older and wiser mage, but there are some barriers to that. One is that she's had a master or masters who've died. It's not her fault, but it kinda looks bad. One might be some nebulous and indistinct relation to changelings - maybe a great-grandparent was one, maybe it's closer to home - which doesn't give her much in the way of fae traits, maybe she has an affinity for light, but it looks sketchy.

Her Togetic Thranta is now a rescued cockatiel. It's her familiar.

CR Opportunities: ummmm I guess she'd definitely have a family in this AU. Huh. You want in? I know Axel-mun expressed interest. Also, mage contacts! Doesn't just have to be with mages. Has she consulted with you and done favors for secrets? Has she tried being your apprentice? Is she your apprentice, if you're a mage? Her coven's not as into the master-apprentice bond as a big deal as the Jedi are, but it's there.

It's more likely that she's his foster sister, if only because that way he actually knows her, but if you're still interested once the brainweasels abate we can work something out. Edit: Also it's a thing that his foster family were somehow supernatural, so. It'd be one way for her to have talent, knowledge, and access.

Lambert's gonna be a university librarian, so POTENTIALLY they could bump into each other there if she's looking for particular things? That's the most immediate jumping off point that sticks out to me anyway. :|a Potentially as memories start coming back there'll be more reason to seek each other out.

He can pick up on spirits/auras and the like so if you'd like him to realize She's Magic pretty quickly that can happen! Alternatively, if she's not worried about her familiar getting eaten by cats, come hang out at the cafe he works at. He should be relatively fluent at Greek and Latin and probably something else IDK so if she's working on something there he might comment on it in passing.

FOSTER AU PLOTTING oh boy I love this plot????

[personal profile] control_freak 2017-05-18 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Foster is a 22 year old werebeast warlock (or a WERElock, if you will) and while he's not a BETTER person in this AU, his life and personality are all a lot more manageable.

He and his younger sister Amethyst share a flat together; their parents were mages who gave Foster the boot after he started turning into a nastyass hairy animal. She left with him, and then starting turning into a werepossum. Now they go out and knock garbage cans over in the night and bring back all the cool (read: weird and gross) loot they feel like.

Oh, right. He's a WEREBEAR, which totally ruins the joke of the fact that he has LUPUS instead of a degenerative brain disease. He compensates for this by deliberately seeking out and wearing the most misleading novelty shirts he can find. The upshot of this is that he's a lot less impossible to talk to, assuming you don't find his terrible sense of humour and sketchy personality intolerable even when it's NOT blown out totally of proportion by neurosis and brainrot.

He can't be THAT bad, though! After all, he's been in at least two relationships (with Ash and Axel), at least ONE of which wasn't just trying to use him.

He's a college dropout; he tried several majors, but between his illness and his inability to be happy with anything, gave up and dropped out about a year ago, probably around the same time he BRILLIANTLY decided to make a PACT with a DEMON (unknown) for POWER (also unknown.)

He has either FULL or PARTIAL amnesia; if the former, he's using drugs and sex as irresponsible distractions from his disease and personal problems. If the latter, he tends to deal with it via.... irresponsible use of drugs and sex and probably alcohol rather than trying to figure that shit out.

In fairness, his life is messy enough already.

CR Opportunities:

- Exes or current relationships/hookups
- He DID go to college for a while, maybe you had some classes with him
- I have no idea how he makes rent???
- He and Amethyst have probably destroyed your trash cans before, but like... you can't chase off a demon bear and 100 lb opossum with a broom

I'm making Lapis completely human for her stay, as well as having her have a complete memory wipe.

However, her dratini is being turned into a lovely blue nope noodle. Said nope noodle is retaining all of its memories, and will be a little more animated than one would typically expect of a snake. Mostly because she will actively attempt to hide from anyone else beyond Lapis by shoving her face right into Lapis' hair. A very skittish danger spaghet indeed. Thankfully she doesn't bite. Even if grabbed.

Lapis is aware of supernatural beings, but will also quickly excuse herself from any weird situations involving them the best she can, and if she can't, she'll just pretend she saw nothing. It's simpler that way.

She goes for walks in the early morning and just before late evening, before and after work. She recently got a new job at that Cafe that Lambert runs after quitting her job at a Pet Supply shop. During her runs, she'll be found with her dratini snake hanging from her neck and checking out the scenery like it's a feather boa. Only minus the feathers and actually a boa.

- Seriously who the fuck takes walks with a snake.
- Maybe you know her from her place of previous employment??? Or her current. I'm not your boss.
-Lapis has a bachelor pad. Maybe whacky neighbours???
-Her pretending that You Are Absolutely Normal And That's Not Fucking Weird At All while just giving you the most nervous of smiles
- a delicious human

Amethyst lives with her older brother Foster and is currently halfheartedly attending community college in an effort to postpone deciding what to do with her life! She is like 19/20 instead of 5,000 years old, and also, a werepossum? It's kind of gross but whatever. Her and Foster's parents were mages, so between that and the fact that they're both weres they know a fair bit about underground magic stuff, but fae stuff is more or less a mystery to Amethyst at the moment.

Her Full Possum form is like the size of a large dog? very bad

Booger, her Goomy, is a banana slug she keeps in a tank in her messy ass room

She doesn't remember anything, at least to start off with!

- Amethyst totally does Secret Underground Werebeast Wrestling, who wants to be involved with this with her. who wants to Fight Her, or to have fought her, or to have watched her fight people with her awful prehensile possum tail
- Do u go to community college? Amethyst might be in your classes being kind of rude
- She probably steals cars sometimes because that's how she do.. like just for funsies, you know, if that's the kind of activity that u think might lead you to cross her path in one way or another
- If you're involved in mage stuff then you might have known her and Foster's parents and thus have met them when they were younger? you know, before their parents kicked them out for getting awful and hairy, which they weren't a fan of
- GGGENERAL... WEREFOLK COMMUNITY BUSINESS...? I don't think Amethyst is SUPER involved in were business beside her participation in the... organised werefight scene... but she's, like, around

Considering that Strange is an awful mage with awful mage friends, he probably knows Foster & Amethyst's parents. So how would poor Amethyst like to be the other recipient of Strange popping in to be like "hey, dad sent me to check up on you, stop being gross and hairy and go home'

showmystar: but really I'm not your friend but I am-- (make a little birdhouse in your soul)

Allen Walker plotting

[personal profile] showmystar 2017-05-19 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Tentatively hammering out the details, but...

Allen will be a changeling (reluctantly) aligned with the Summer Court. From birth to the age of seven, he had been unconsciously putting up a glamour to match the other kids at the orphanage. When he reached the age of 8, he lost the ability to use glamour unconsciously; he began showing signs of fae magic and physical attributes, such as lavender eyes because if the anime does it I can too, pointed ears, and bird wings growing just above his hips OR from his back. The director of the orphanage kicked him onto the streets out of fear and disgust, and it was the streets where he grew up. His abilities are light enchantments (though I may change that to water), glamour, and transfiguring into a small blue bird, either a spangled cotinga or a kingfisher. The wings he has when not transfigured are of the same species. I might make his wings white with bright blue Kingfisher dots just because i can, fight me. Except he's...not much of a fighter. He has the fighting abilities you pick up off the streets to survive, but he goes to extreme ridiculous lengths to avoid fighting. He's a weak changeling compared to some others. His strongest ability is transfiguration. His enchantments are weak as hell.

Sick of the lack of community and support among non-Pack members and the pompous Circle, Allen has taken it upon himself to Save Everyone, starting with Dignity Village. Because...he kind of lives there. He has a Home Base and everything, it's awesome. It's not awesome, it's a cardboard box from a refrigerator

While protecting his Home Base and everyone in it, Allen has been trying to start a supernatural group with everyone's interests in mind, rather than the werebeast-only Pack or the pompous Circle. Fight back the Torchlight! Screw the Circle! Bring changelings together in community, finally. Bring ALL supernaturals together! Because no one else will protect us but ourselves. He'll welcome anyone into the fold, even psychics. He often gets himself in trouble pestering supernaturals on the streets and getting beat up for it. It involves a lot of nervous smiles and running away. The Pack has probably heard of him, as he has asked some of their were-members for support. The Circle, too, though tentatively. He hates you all, you pretentious bastards.

Allen will be half-and-half amnesiac, wherein he "suddenly" recalls memories of both the lives of "Allen Walker" and "Nea". He's not sure who he is. Is his name actually Nea? Which life is the true one? The boy in the wheat field with his loving mother and sick twin brother, the lonely boy Exorcist with a found family and horrible circumstances, or the Allen that lives in Portland? He's kind of hoping it's the one in the wheat field, at least that boy seems happy...

Nea, of course, remembers everything outside of Portland, and he's using this chance to shake Allen's foundations. As Allen recalls more and more, all this will shake up Nea's memories, and Allen will learn that Mana and Nea are both the Millennium Earl, and they were never twins at all. They are both the same person, and the man that Allen knew to be his adoptive father is actually the Millennium Earl. Oopsie-daisy! What will you do now, Allen Walker?

In trying to reconcile his memories with the life he's living, Allen will think the loving mother in Nea's memories is his fae mother whom he never met. The Summerlands are always summer, right? The wheat field, that must be the land of the fae that he will never see... I might make him of the Winter Court instead, giving him water, glamour, enchantments, and transfiguration abilities. It would be a tiny twist for him, separating him further from the rest of society!!!! \o/ yay dark fae! His version of glamour would be a bit October Daye, wherein he'd be grabbing shadows out of the air and shaping them to do what he needs.

TL;DR nosy bird changeling looking to rally fellow supernaturals for community and support. I gotta...figure out what to do with Timcanpy.

Potential CR:
  • any supernaturals he's pestered to join his all-inclusive rebel/support group. Esp. members of the Pack. Maybe the Circle, y'all are hard to find and he hates the Circle on principle. Your groups have probably at least heard of a weak changeling punk trying to lure away members.

  • any psychics/humans that aren't warlocks or mages but still have psychic abilities... He's a little iffy on whether or not you count. He may have desperately tried to get you to join, but tentatively so, and maybe a little judgmental. You humans don't know what we've been through!!! (So much for all-inclusive.)

  • All changelings will get approached to join, no matter where you are or if mentioning it would endanger you. He will use that against you to lure you out alone and convince you to join. What a Swell Guy.

  • any supernaturals or supernaturally-inclined humans willing to join his little support group. He intends to defend all supernatural kind against Torchlight and government coverups, giving everyone support and community. It's like a little rebel faction with group sessions. It's all very naive and defense-oriented. Why can't everyone work together??

  • any changelings or other supernaturals he grew up with on the streets. He needed a lot of direction after getting kicked out of the orphanage, and right now that gap in his memories for a mentor is wide open.

  • any homeless people he lives with??? idk man he's a nosy kid trying to save everyone he sees, you're gonna have to deal with him one way or another

Sounds like something Pearl might help with through her biker gang -- they're kinda the nomadic version of a support group. So maybe she sometimes sends people ALlen's way and they have a cordial relationship

perverses: (010)

and now a separate comment for Shima, also a nightclub

[personal profile] perverses 2017-05-19 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Shima is going to be a DEMON named RENZO (just using his first name over calling him his last name all the time, no big change there) of the hellfire, super-strength, and mind control variety. He probably has horns, pointy ears, fangs, claws, a tail, the funky red eyes that he hides with sunglasses all the time, that whole shebang. He's pretty old, despite maintaining a really young appearance (he looks more 18 than 16 here, but still, not a big change), and has been bumming it around Earth even before the severing (apart from the times he had to drag souls down to hell and such).

That also means he's moderately loaded (rich but not so rich that people side-eye it too hard), thanks to a series of investments, loot he's stored up to sell for rainy days. The current story is he's a rich jerk kid with too much access to his trust fund and he's gone straight from high school into buying up a nightclub (he's actually owned it for awhile, it's just recently he wanted to show up publically as the owner).

The club is CROSSROADS and it's definitely set up in the sprawling basement of a warehouse with very dubious licenses and likely a huge bribe annually to the fire inspectors. Windows do exist but are blacked out, so it is undead friendly (and has blood on tap if you know how to ask). In fact, it's also very supernatural friendly, but please no mortal/normal killing on site. No one wants to deal with the cops, guys. Don't worry about being under 18/21, either, because it's run by a demon, why would he care?

He remembers none of his life as a demon.

He also has no intentions of trying to fix this problem, because his surprise new life kind of rocks? Or at least seems to at first. Problem is, Yamantaka, his demon summon, also exists in this world, but as a big black bull ghost that will start stalking him and trying to guilt him into doing something. Oops. :') Also, for all he knows, he has enemies or people who are going to turn on him once it's too obvious he has no idea what he's doing here.

- he's your boss, you work at Crossroads in one way or another
- you just go to Crossroads as a patron, whatever
- you are part of the good guys who would like to see a shady place like Crossroads get shut down because it's owned by a demon/full of freaks
- you're someone from his past, a friend, an ally, an enemy, an ex or current girlfriend somehow
- someone he's mind-controlled in the past and out for revenge
- maybe you bum around the fairly nice apartment he lives in over the club sometimes, like he doesn't care, just don't break or steal his stuff (not that he actually remembers all the shit he even owns and there is a ton of old/weird crap up there, seriously)
- a warlock who relies on him for power? that's also cool
- someone else with full memories or who begins to remember and realizes Shima's being a huge asshole by not sharing with the class
- spot the wrathful ghost following him around and ask him about that hahaha hah ha ha what ghost what are you talking about IGNORE IT

anti_nonsense: (step 2: FIREBALLS)

Rita Mordio

[personal profile] anti_nonsense 2017-05-19 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Rita will be a changeling who was abducted as a baby by a fire-elemental fae. However, when the fae went to return her to her parents, they were nowhere to be found. She ended up being raised by the fae instead, who didn't really know what to do with a developing human, resulting in Rita being neglected much of the time and having to learn to take care of herself. She had access to books, at least, which was her only real window to human society. She also had the opportunity to study magic, which became her one (and seemingly only) passion in life.

Shortly after reaching her teens, Rita decided she had enough of being a fae's pet, and fled to the human world, using the magic she learned to cover her tracks. However, even after reaching the world she was supposed to belong to, she quickly found that there was no place she belonged. Between being a changeling, having little worldly experience, and basically no social skills, she was unable to fit in anywhere.

She spent a short time in the Sanctuary while getting her bearings, and after that, she tried to integrate in human society, using glamours to blend in. But it was no use. For a while, she'd move from place to place, sometimes encountering people kind enough to shelter her for a time. Eventually, she met Pearl and her biker gang and joined them, as it was the first coven she'd found that was receptive to changelings, where she could feel somewhat accepted.

From her years living among fae, Rita has a lot of unusual features, including black-and-red feathers along her arms, red-and-blue horns, horn-like spikes on her shoulders, and a fan-like feathered tail. Among humans, she uses a glamour to hide those features. Her abilities involve fire magic, spells to enhance movement and conceal her presence (which she used to escape the fae), and practical spells for noncombat uses.

Anyone who met Rita either during or shortly after her time spent in the fae realm would have found her to be a quiet and gloomy kid with a bit of a rude streak. Now, after two years among humans and away from the fae, she's still rude, but has grown considerably more expressive than she used to be.

CR Opportunities??

- People who might have met her during her stay, or her subsequent visits, at the Sanctuary.
- Someone who might have given Rita food and/or shelter while she was drifting from place to place.
- People who were in the fae realm sometime before ~2 years ago may have seen her with the fire-elemental fae that was keeping her. Maybe they met?
- Other members of Pearl's gang, or people who might have interacted with the gang?
- People who frequent one of Rita's favourite places, like the cat cafe or the libary.
- Anything else!
showmystar: and all my hopes are counted (yeah yeah and I'm alright)

[personal profile] showmystar 2017-05-19 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Pearl will sometimes be sending people Allen's way, because he's running a support group for all supernaturals/psychics that doubles as a defense against all supernatural enemies. (Torchlight, the government, etc.) They share information on the goings-on of the streets and Portland's underground, so Rita has probably seen Allen around. He's a weak-as-hell changeling with HUGE plans on changing things for the better around here.

Allen grew up on the streets after he got booted out of his orphanage for showing fae traits, so they probably bumped into each other growing up. He's living in Dignity Village now, but he was a drifter, too, since age 8. He's got bird traits (blue wings), so they have something in common. He's of the Winter Court, though he aligns himself with the Summer Court because that's what he believes his genetics come from. SOME OPTIONS:

-they knew each other growing up on the streets, and now they bump into each other through Pearl's biker gang. They can reconnect and share a meal, maybe share information, idk.
-Allen's fae parent abandoned him in the human world, so he's both bitter and far too curious about what the fae land is like. He'll have plenty of questions for her, and as he's nosy as hell, he's likely to be an obnoxious brat.
-Allen hangs outside of the cat cafe to pester regulars and try to get them to join his ranks, so they can bump into each other there! he never goes in because he has no money. He'll probably pester her, and he has no qualms about threatening to reveal their changeling status to passersby in order to gain a private audience. He's a Little Shit.
-the above, but maybe she steps in to stop him from doing the same to someone else!

Or some combination of the above idk, tell me what you want

disorder_heaven: (Angel mode.)

[personal profile] disorder_heaven 2017-05-19 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Bringing along some dramatic irony, or lack thereof, for the ride, Lucifer is going to be an angel. His normally dark wings will be completely white, and rather than emanating an aura of the smell of junk food, he'll be faintly glowing with a shimmering light that will make his features a little hard to make out.

I plan on him having almost full amnesia, remembering bits and pieces of his past life and mixing them up with what's happening in AU. Both situations have similarities; he is angry about being stuck with the riffraff and unable to return to Heaven, but at the same time, he's amused at the change, and plans to be quite a jerk wherever he can.

In canon, he actually was an angel that chose to fall from Heaven to join up with Satan and the gang in the Demon World, preferring chaos to the eternal boredom that came with being an angel. However, since his canon focuses far more on the shenanigans that happens with King Satan, Demon General Lucifer, and co. in modern-day Japan, there are very few opportunities to see (or play) Lucifer as a bitter snotty angel brat. So I will very much be taking his personality from that time.

For the most part, his bitterness towards the humans and his holier-than-thou attitude towards pretty much anything else will lead to him acting as a trickster that can do no wrong. Basically, he'll be gaslighting anyone he can, doing little obnoxious things that seem helpful until they reveal themselves later to be quite jerk-ass moves.

For CR opportunies, there will a lot of him "watching over" people under the guise of a benevolent angel, trying to gather gossip and spread misinformation, and overall just pranking people.

This isn't to say he won't form alliances. If he finds someone interesting enough, or for some reason decides to take pity on them, he might be a useful person to have on your side.

On a similar note, feel free to prank alongside him. He may find your sense of humor worth his time, and it's a good way to get on his good side. Also, flattery. No matter what world or alterations he goes through, Lucifer will always be a little too proud for his own good, and you'd be surprised what complimenting his wings will do for you.

I'm open to CR suggestions, since I'm still fleshing out certain plans and details about his backstory. Hit me up~

AU RIN! Not much different than NORMAL RIN!

[personal profile] blueblaze 2017-05-20 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Rin will remain a half demon, though he'll be looking significantly more reptiley, with a snoot and wings and the whole nine yards. "Half demon". Haaahaha. He'll also be having half and half memories. In this AU, his mother is the demon and his father is a human, and he was raised by them in a surprisingly loving relationship. He's more hedonistic than usual, but he's still very much HIMSELF. To the normies, he looks perfectly human, except a tail he can't hide. To everyone else... well, no sword can hide this shit.

Kuro and Nosh will both be present as full demon familiars. So... no different for Kuro, and Nosh will be a dragonfly demon.

AU Joker

So this still-demonically-possessed-shitshow is going to come into this whole thing as an angel, because the universe is clearly fucking with him, somehow.

Joker probably has some pretty alternative angel name, but he refuses to use it because it's pretentious, for fucks sake, so please just call him Joker, it's fine, don't worry about it. Like many angels, he could trapped in this world and, while it sucks, he's dealing with it. In many ways, it's almost refreshing to be relieved of all that pressure. DESPITE BEING A HIGHLY QUESTIONABLE ANGEL, Joker is actually very fond of his charge, Sora, and is acting as his guardian angel. He hangs out near him a lot, which includes Sora's roommate Snake and that one bratty ghost Tamaki.

Also he and Psi banged once after the severing happened because that's just. what you do, right??? They have an Arrangement. Sometimes they meet up for lunch and shit, it's fine. However, he's only this relaxed with Psi because, much like Joker is a Questionable Angel, Psi is in turn a Questionable Demon.

Joker is also going full amnesia but is going to quickly start getting spotty memories. As an angel (and also carnival veteran), he's going to quickly realize this isn't just weird dreams or anything, and will start poking around at magical people in order to find an answer.

also he harassed Strange once

- Do you know Sora, Snake, or Tamaki? Joker probably knows you by association. It's debatable if you know Joker. Who let angels go invisible?
- HI FELLOW ANGELS how's fucking around going for you all
- For any supernaturals, if you try too much dangerous/murderous shit near where Sora lives or frequents, Joker will absolutely have stepped in. Most of the time Joker is very much stay in his lane, but danger to his charge gets his attention.
- If you are associated with magic of any sort, after that first week, Joker will start remembering shit and thus start trying to asking around magical circles because what in the fuck

fucking around is going great thanks

Actually Sans has been taking the disconnect from heaven pretty hard, mostly because working as a Psychopomp is really rough on him emotionally and so having a lack of orders from the higher ups is making him really listless and depressed. He does a lot of substance abuse and has been slacking on doing his job as stringently as heaven would usually demand.

He probably actually resents Joker a little for having a job like Guardian Angel, because it seems way more nice and chill and having to put people to rest all the time. Sans is also Psi's sort-of-not-really roommate who mostly just loiters in Psi's apartment all the time without paying rent and smokes his pity weed.

Papyrus AU Plotting

[personal profile] spaghettimonster 2017-05-21 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Papyrus is gonna be a human warlock with a partial memory wipe who looks like the nerd in this icon (thanks simonsoys).

AT FIRST, he barely remembers anything of the traveling circus of mutating people. It's mostly scattered bits like a guy who sounds like his dad but looks like a skeleton in a labcoat, or a lady who sounds and acts like his older sister but looks like a fish in armor. So he'll start out thinking his demon buddy is messing with him, or maybe giving him precognitive visions of his future unlife in the skeleton war? Who knew his demon was a meme-loving shit.

Papyrus isn't exactly getting in touch with them about it, because as funny as discussing those totally-just-dreams would be, he's kinda keeping his distance from most of his family right now. There's some mages, proper learning mages, and sticking to phone contact is the best way to keep them from getting upset at him for getting in over his head with the whole infernal contract deal. It's fine, he's going to make it work, there's no reason to worry!!!

He's attending a local college part time, just a couple classes, in between his exploration into whatever magical abilities he's gotten out of his deal (and totally-sincere friendship, or maybe it's not sincere yet but he's going to win that demon over eventually). He's something of a trustfund baby, one of those mythical young adults with enough financial support from his family that he's never really had to worry about bills.

Out of some idea that you're supposed to get real world working experience, he's working a "job" as a intermittent, on-demand dogsitter. It's a great plan, especially since he's always got his phone on him, and is ready to skip out on classes to go hang out with dogs, and most especially because he has a dog. One who might be part hellhound and might secretly be a pokemon on the inside.

Oh, and he's definitely still rocking the weird mild precognitive? reality-bending? power courtesy of the mushi plot, though here it's thanks to the warlock gig. I'm not yet sure what else he has going on there. So that's a convenient hook for him to go hey, that person's familiar/important even if he doesn't outright remember carnival stuff yet.

Potential CR
- Anybody who can sense warlockness, whether they get offended by it, or concerned for his well-being and sanity, or want to use him to pass on messages in whatever demonic power games
- Classmates from college, neighbors, other sorts of casual acquaintances
- Maybe even a roommate!
- Other relatives

Sans is going to come tell him he needs jesus, as he does with all demon warlocks, which will probably be weird because they're both going to have partial memories.

But seriously, heaven will knock your socks off if you step out of line with that shit.

Just casually going to threaten to murder his own brother.

Sans is a spirit guide/psychopomp angel who has taken being disconnected from heaven pretty hard. Outside of the context of defending and collecting souls as part of a greater purpose, it's harder and harder for him to withstand the emotional burden of dealing with dead and dying people, and a lot of the time he wonders what the point of it all is supposed to be. He also struggles a lot with the idea that he could potentially be helping to avoid these mortal's death, but both doesn't know if its his place to do so/doesn't want to take on the burden of action, and would rather just let things happen as they may.

Due to his listlessness and growing malaise, he's pretty shit about properly sticking to his duties, and spends a lot of time dicking around with mind altering substances and human media. He sort of half lives in Demon Psi's apartment despite not paying rent, and is basically just a terrible mooch. He also hangs out a lot in the local Cat Cafe, several local bars, and drops by the Sanctuary occasionally to share the Hot Goss with Helen.

The rest of his time he spends stalking people who are soon to die, which he can pick out with his angelic death vision. He doesn't know exactly how they'll die, though, so he mostly just follows the doomed around until it happens, so that he can guide their souls to the afterlife before they can become lost/get eaten by a demon or something. This also means that he's just sort of inherently a dick to vampires and zombies, and generally speaking he won't hesitate to tell them that they should really just let him take their souls to the afterlife instead of letting them become corrupted by dark magics/bloodblust.

He's got a softspot for undead that were killed before their time however, and will often end up shirking his proper angel duties to try to give them a break - choosing to keep an eye on them to make sure they don't become a nuisance rather than taking the more truly angelic path of just smiting them and escorting their souls with or without permission. He's not a warrior and thus not built primarily for combat, but he can still be pretty deadly with a combination of speed and cleverness.

His angelic form is basically his usual skeleton self but with wings made of light and more additional eyesockets that necessary. He's got eyes in his ribcage for fuck's sake. He doesn't teleport, but he can move extremely quickly by wing, and can also turn invisible/intangible.

► THE DEAD OR DYING: Sans can tell when people are destined to die soon, and also has the innate duty to escort the dead to the afterlife. However, he hates his job, and so he is not very good about actually forcing vampires and zombies to die properly, as would be the usual psychopomp way. If you are undead he's probably come to ask you if you wouldn't prefer to go to the afterlife with your soul intact instead of allowing it to be corrupted, but he's more likely to just check in on you than force you to do anything. With ghosts, he'll try his best to help them but he doesn't have much staying power when it comes to trying to work out difficult ghost problems.\

► THE GOOD BOOK: Angel!Sans's favourite schtick is to go up to random supernaturals and ask them if they've heard about the Good Book, and then give them a random science fiction novel he's read and liked. Ideally after they've had a few seconds to be terrified than an angel is about to try to evangelize at them. If you take the book he will absolutely come back to talk to you about said book and/or check to see if you've actually read it. He reads a lot of scifi books in his copious spare time, so he just tends to give away the ones that he's read and enjoyed. Also, it's funny.

► PARTY CRASHER: Sans likes showing up at events that he hasn't been invited to, especially of the supernatural variety.

► ANGELS AND DEMONS: Sans has fallen from grace pretty hard since heaven was closed off and is basically a huge boob who only half heartedly performs his duties. That doesn't mean he won't take a stab at fighting off demons who threaten innocents or threatening to murder warlocks who worship demons if they don't straighten up and fly right.

Sherlock has been dead a long time and is always around the Sanctuary. He probably sees Sans as a nuisance and more than a tiny bit disconcerting and unsettling, with what he represents to him. But he's got a soft spot for his situation because of being around Helen for 100+ years, so he wouldn't be too rude to him, and would enjoy banter among the lines of attempting to convince him to move on and coming up with increasingly ridiculous excuses.

Sophie is going to be...NOT A VAMPIRE! Huzzah! She's gonna be a ghost instead. While alive she was whatever the mage equivalent of a grad student is, studying under Foster's parents, and working as a tutor. When she finds out that her Profs have kicked out their kid, (coincidentally the kid she has spent at least some number of years tutoring), she says fuck to the that and decides to go looking after the newly homeless kid. Knowing he's a were, and that that could lead him to trouble, she starts poking around and stumbles across/gets involved in an extremist faction of Torchlight that wants to find a 'cure' for were-ism, and doesn't care about the costs.

Initially she hooks up with them because they are doing Rather Sketchy things to keep tabs on and identify weres and is hoping that their info could help her find Foster, but ultimately she uncovers some of the more unsavory things they are doing. Sophie being Sophie, she addresses this problem with all the delicacy of a rampaging elephant and winds up getting shot. Now she's a ghost. At first she used all her Poltergeisty Powers to screw with the anti-were organization, which eventually lead to it crumbling. Then she figured she might as well resume looking for foster, corporeal or not. And she found him! And is now just sort of 'haunting' him as an increasingly bored and inconvenient ghost who will get way less chill and way more angry if someone tries to fuck with him.

-fellow mage grad students?
-fellow Normal grad students? (she studied chemistry, focused on explosives, her magic studies focused similarly on destructive types of spells)
-people she tutored! Probably high school age math and science, but potentially college kids too if it's Chemistry related.
-Members of Torchlight who either interacted with her, or heard about her shenanigans.
-Other Ghosts. I'm sure they have a mailing list or something.
-Exorcists. Maybe between Torchlight and Foster she haunted some other place/person/thing and had to be shooed off by somebody. Good opportunity for hilariousness.
